The nation's only Major League Soccer team should get significantly more Canadian content on its revamped coaching staff.
Nick Dasovic is expected to get a bigger portfolio with Toronto FC in an announcement today, either as an equal or first assistant to Englishman Chris Cummins, who replaces John Carver.
Cummins and Dasovic ran the team the past few days, including Sunday's 1-0 win over Kansas City that put TFC in top spot in the Eastern Conference.

TORONTO -- Try as he might to stifle it, Toronto FC midfielder Carl Robinson could not help but scoff.
Reporters were asking Robinson about the announcement Tuesday of the club's new coach - a news conference scheduled for Wednesday will announce John Carver's official interim replacement - and the midfielder apparently could not get over the absurdity of it all.
"Let me know who got (the job) tomorrow, huh?" Robinson joked.
The reason for the laughs is that everybody has already handed 37-year-old Englishman Chris Cummins the job, even if Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment has not confirmed it yet.

We weren't top when he left, we were second of third and that’s just in the East. Even with the Kansas win, we’re still only third in the league. But I suppose you can’t blame him for polishing up his CV, he’s going to want work eventually.

These things about MLS he complained about, we know he’s right about most, if not all of them, but it sure isn’t creating good publicity. On one hand, we’re trying to make the league more attractive to come play in and to a certain extent, that’s been true since TFC joined in 2007 (for a number of reasons, not just because TFC upped the standard in terms of support and atmosphere), but on the other hand to have these exposed might make players think twice about coming. However, you could also argue that airing out these things might help to improve the league in the long run.

His complaints about the DP setup are valid.

Carver said: "You only get one designated player.
"It’s crazy you have David Beckham earning millions but a young kid on $17,000.
"Where is the common sense in that?"

Perhaps the better route to take is the split cap that was discussed a while back.
Have a certain amount that is covered in MLS books (maybe 3 million) and then maybe another 2 million or so that teams would have to pay for out of pocket, should they choose to do so.

A team could spend that all on one player, or they could use it to create more depth.

Let's face it, right now MLS is around a low Championship and high League One level.
I recall that in League One they spend around MLS level in salary.
Garber's goal for MLS, in the not too distant future, should be reaching Championship standards.
There would definitely be no shame in that.

Well I don't think it's a shitty league, what do you want? I think for the amount of money the players make, this is probably the best supported league for this level. I don't think it's going to get anywhere where we all want it to be anytime soon...Well as soon as the Hunts pretty much disappear (as both of their teams are the worst in attendance....).

As for Garber, how is he a douchebag? You have no freakin clue. He pretty much singlehandidly saved the league when he came in by making Uncle Phil, Hunt, and Kraft sit down and make the league stay afloat. Between the 4 of them they crafted a way to make the league stay alive. You obviously haven't followed the league since it's inception. It was literally on it's death knell when he came in. They just can't change the way things are operated until the new CBA. If things don't change after the CBA, then we can call him a douchebag. Until then, we get to go to games that aren't the USL level, we get to a nice little park we call our own and should be happy right now. We all know things have to change, the minimum should at least be 40k for those players making 17k right now, and we should be offering the mid-level players that go over to Europe to the winterlands to play a bit more to stay here as well (we'd have a much better league if all those guys playing in Denmark/Norway/Sweden) were here instead of playing at the same level earning more $$$.

Not only did Garber play a major part in saving the league during it's darkest days, he eliminated the stupid Americanisms like the penalty shot that the previous Commissioner, Doug Logan had instituted (copying the NASL). He also put his reputation, and possibly his job on the line supporting a team in Canada in what had been originally conceived as a US-only league. We owe him a lot (not that I agree with some of the things he does).

To all of whom are critisizing the MLS and it's way to do business, I have only one question.
Can you please describe to me how did the English league looked like when it hit it's 10th or 15th anniversary of exsistence?
Remember people, this league is so young and it's operating in a continent that don't support this kind of sport. We are lucky to barely survive beside Hockey, Baseball, Basketball and American Football.
And who ever is comparing the MLS to the Europeans major leagues has to stop smoking what they are smoking.
MLS should be able to be compared to these leagues after 50 or 70 years of exsistence. What it was accomplished already in North America as far as soccer is concerned is a MIRACLE on itself.
I come from a country where football (soccer) is the sport # 1 and I'm so greatful that we have a team to cheer for and a stadium that we can go to every week.
Please stop the hatered toward MLS and start supporting it or else when this league disapear again we will go back to our couches to watch football (soccer) on TV.

I'm not comparing it to anything. I go to games all the time....i enjoy watching TFC play(well sometimes it actually hurts)

People who know the game of football can honestly tell you that MLS sucks. Plain and simple. No sugar coating, no oooohhh i don't really want to offend anyone, its just straight up true. The truth hurts?? So be it. Its called growing pains.

If you want the league to constantly get better, than keep being vocal about it.

JC was over reacting over an issue he had no control. He should've focused on the teams formation & got Mo & Assman to lobby for his officiating concerns.

I think he fucked himself outta job, 'cause the Assman sees no problem with the officiating.

I liked JC, but I'm tired, he's gone, just go, enough already.
