Default Yohan's MLS Power Ranking - Week 7

Since I am bored and having watched too many MLS games this year, I thought I put together my own power ranking.

    1. Chivas USA
*Last week: 1-0 lose to Toronto FC, 2-0 win vs FC Dallas
    **This week: at San Jose
-After a midweek bump in a loss against TFC, Preki's machine cruised along to win against hapless Hoops. Kinda easy when Dallas had keeper Salas sent off. And with players coming back from injury, building on solid defence (Thornton is having helluva year in net), and if offence kicks in high gear, Chivas may be able to kick it into high gear.
Chivas should be able to handle rather inconsistent San Jose away

    2. Chicago Fire
*Last week: 2-2 draw vs Columbus
**This week: a friendly vs Club America, at home vs Seattle
-Chinks are showing Chicago's armour as this makes it 3 straight games that the Fire defence has given up 2 or more goals per game. If it wasn't for the potent offence led by McBride's 5 goals, Chicago would be in so much trouble. Showed good spirit coming back from 2-0 down to draw in Columbus.

    3. Real Salt Lake
*Last week: 6-0 win vs New England
**This week: US Cup game away at Seattle, away at Colorado
-Things are starting to really come together for Jason Kreis's team. With an empatic thumping of New England, RSL is making a statement to MLS as a whole that they are not to be taken easy this year.
This week, RSL has an US Open Cup game vs Seattle and rather winnable game away at Colorado.
Now only if Yura Movsisyan can put away all the chances he gets...

    4. Seattle Sounders
*Last week: 2-0 win vs San Jose
**This week: US open cup game vs Real Salt Lake, away at Chicago
-Welcome back Kasey Keller, because with Keller in net, Seattle has not given up a goal. Everyone is contributing for the Sounders, and Coach Sigi's master plan is well on the way.
Zakuani has shown to be the real deal in past few games. Now only if Montero can get going again, and Seattle will definitely be in the play offs.
Seattle will be tested against Chicago this week to see what the Sounders are really made out of.

    5. Toronto FC
*Last week: 1-0 win vs Chivas, 1-0 win vs Kansas City
**This week: at home vs Columbus
-Even with shocking resignation of John Carver prior to day before KC game, Toronto grinds out a result. The offence is starting to really click after switching to 4-3-3 with team legend Danny Dichio leading the attack.
With a little extra cutting edge in final third, Toronto FC is another team to make a strong run now.
Columbus should find Toronto hard to beat this sat, especially at BMO Field.

    6. Houston Dynamo
    *Last week: bye
    **This week: at New England
-2 weeks of rest should give Dominic Kinnear plenty of time to sort out the Dynamo. Defence has proven to be solid with 3 clean sheets in a row, but the offence hasn't exactly clicked. With Akinbiyi having time to adjust to Houston's game, the injury ravaged Revs may be perfect target for Houston to test out their offensive game.

    7. New England Revolution
*Last week: 6-0 loss vs Real Salt Lake
**This week: at home vs Houston
-Granted, the Revs are suffering from huge injury bug, but 6-0 loss is just not acceptable.
I fear the Revs will fall more in the standings, with Houston making a visit this Sat, but away to Chicago the week after.
Steve Nicol's men hopes that players return from the injury list soon, or else it might get really ugly. However, the worst of Revs schedule (1 home game in 5) is over

    8. DC United
*Last week: 2-0 US Open Cup win vs FC Dallas, 3-2 win vs New York
**This week: at home vs FC Dallas
-Will the real DC United please stand up?
DC played surprisingly potent football at times, but also has lapses that make them look rather silly. Made a good comeback in dying minutes vs Red Bulls to snatch 3 pts away.
It'll be a wait and see to watch DC if they are going to make a run for top place in the East. Hosting Dallas should be another 3 points in the bag however. Emilio will be called up to lead the attack again. He has 4 goals so far.

    9. Kansas City Wizards
*Last week: 1-0 win vs New York, 1-0 loss vs Toronto
    *This week: bye
-The Wizards lost to TFC, snapping a 4 game unbeaten streak. Truth be told, the Wizards have been pretty lucky to be on that streak, not playing the best football that the Wizards are capable of, and oppositions getting red cards.
Something is just not clicking with the Wizards, and Onalfo will hope to address that issue with a bye week.

    10. Colorado Rapids
*Last week: 1-1 draw vs LA
*This week: home vs Real Salt Lake
-The Rapids are still searching for consistency. Drawing at home vs LA is not the greatest indication. Someone needs to step up for the Rapids, but the question is who?
The Rapids resolve will be tested when RSL visits Dick's Sporting Goods stadium.

    11. Columbus Crew
*Last week: 2-2 draw vs Chicago
    **This week: away vs Toronto
-The Crew got a credible draw vs Chicago and a bit of tough luck on Padula red card. However, letting 2 goals in at dying mins is not something Crew needs to keep doing.
The defending champs need to find their gear, and soon, because no wins in 6 games is not acceptable. Going away to Toronto is going to be challenge to get one point, let alone 3, considering the form Columbus is in right now. The Crew hopes they get players returning from the injury list soon too.

    12. San Jose Earthquake
*Last week: 2-0 loss vs Seattle
**This week: at home vs New York and Chivas
-Consistency is what the Earthquakes are looking for. Offence scores goals in bunches. Defence is not as sharp as last year. While SJ put up a valiant fight vs Seattle, but SJ is missing Huckerby badly.
Wed game vs rather tepid Red Bulls may be what San Jose needs, though Chivas on Sat may be a tougher test.

    13. New York Red Bulls
*Last week: 1-0 loss vs Kansas City, 3-2 loss vs DC
**This Week: away at San Jose, away at Los Angeles
-The Red Bulls put up a strong fight against DC, but last min collapse cost them the points. Clearly the team is dysfunctional and Coach Osorio has little time to find out what, as a busy and grueling schedule has NY away to San Jose on Wed and Los Angeles on Sat.
Good news is that both SJ and LA aren't exactly playing brilliant football either and the Red Bulls may take points in those games, maybe even a win.

    14. Los Angeles Galaxy
*Last week: 1-1 draw vs Colorado
**This week: home vs New York
-Good news is that LA are getting points and the defence isn't as bad as last year, with Donovan Ricketts and Gregg Berhalter being solid. Bad news is that the goals aren't coming.
LA needed a late game goal from Landon Donovan to snatch a point away in Colorado. Bruce Arena will hope that the team starts to play together, and last year's contributors Alan Gordon and Edson Buddle start helping out Landon Donovan in goal production.
The Red Bulls are coming to LA and it is a very winnable game for the Galaxy.

    15. FC Dallas
*Last week: 2-0 loss to DC in US Open Cup, 2-0 loss to Chivas
    *This week: away to DC
-Things are going way south for FC Dallas, as GK Sala got red carded in the game vs Chivas and will not be available for DC game.
Dallas defence still haven't found their rhythm yet, and Kenny Cooper can't do everything by himself. I suspect it will be another ugly week for the Hoops

I think you were generous with Columbus but other than that - very well justified for all. Well done!

i gave the crew a lot of leniency because 1. they are MLS champs 2. big ass injury list 3. played pretty damn well vs Chicago. thought 11 was fair.
i can't see how SJ, NY, LA and Dallas is better than Columbus. those teams are more dysfunctional than Columbus right now

Remember last year when people were comparing SJ's year with ours and saying they were doing better than we were? Well, I notice they are doing worse than last year and can't seem to get anything going. I think they have Bargnani-syndrome.
Their schedule until the end of May:
Apr 29 - Home vs NYRB (US Open Cup)
May 2 - Home vs Chivas (League)
May 8 - Away at NYRB (League)
    May 15 - Bye Week
May 23 - Away at Houston (League)
May 27 - Away at Columbus (League)
May 30 - Home vs Real Salt Lake (League)

That's a monumental jump up the rankings. Tonking Columbus on Saturday will keep the party going.
