The dearly beloved Dichio scored his first goal of the season in Toronto's 1-0 win over Kansas City on Sunday at BMO Field;

Toronto FC players, stunned by Saturday's resignation of head coach John Carver, put the off-field distractions aside last night to defeat the Kansas City Wizards 1-0 at BMO Field, vaulting to the top of Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference standing.
"We've had a hard couple of days, as you've all seen, and we just wanted to get that win," said Danny Dichio, who scored on a low, right-footed shot from about 10 yards that snuck just inside the left post past a diving Kevin Hartman in the 54th minute.

TORONTO — "We need to put the era of John Carver behind us now."
While Toronto FC director of soccer Mo Johnston waited until after yesterday's 1-0 win over the Kansas City Wizards to draw a line under what he described as a "traumatic week," it was patently clear that this passage in the team's history had actually come to an end Wednesday evening.
When assistant coach Chris Cummins signed off on a new-look team sheet in Carver's stead that night it signalled a changing of the guard. With Carver out of the dugout, the team played with a freedom and attacking flair sadly missing from the first five games, running out a 1-0 winner over league-leading Chivas USA. That may just have been the final straw for the Englishman.

As far as excuses go, Toronto FC had a great one to cite had things not gone their way.
Instead, Toronto blocked out all distractions and put in a thoroughly professional display with a 1-0 win over the visiting Kansas City Wizards on Sunday evening at BMO Field.
The match was played under a cloud of uncertainty a little more than 24 hours after John Carver dropped a bomb by announcing his resignation as Toronto coach, with the Englishman citing "personal reasons" for his decision to walk away after 15 months in charge.

Having their head coach quit barely a month into the regular season caused great unrest in the Toronto FC office and dressing room this week, but no one wanted John Carver's health to suffer.
And there seemed to be a valid concern in that area that led in part to his resignation this week, with the official cause linked to his ongoing battles with Major League Soccer's philosophy and officiating.
"He had certain things, and I don't want to go into that because that's John's private life," manager Mo Johnston said last night, his first comments since the 44-year-old Carver's departure became official on Saturday.

TORONTO -- Arguably the busiest eight-day stretch in Toronto FC's short history ended exactly how the club wanted -- with the Reds in first place. In a week that included two other games, an injury to star midfielder Dwayne De Rosario and the surprise resignation of head coach John Carver, TFC came into Sunday's match with the Kansas City Wizards using the tumult of the previous days as motivation -- and the 1-0 result indicates that the mindset worked.
"I don't think it was a distraction, I think it may egged us on a little bit," said forward Danny Dichio. "We wanted to show we have a great team spirit here and no matter what happens with the [coaching] staff or any of that ... we have to go out and show the fans that we're strong as a unit."

With two wins to his credit and the team in top spot, you can say Chris Cummins has a good chance of landing the Toronto FC job for the balance of this MLS season.
Cummins and assistant Nick Dasovic made FC (3-2-2) stand for First in Conference last evening as it beat the Kansas City Wizards 1-0 at BMO Field on Danny Dichio's goal in the 54th minute.

TORONTO -- A second-half goal from Danny Dichio put Toronto FC atop the Eastern Conference after a 1-0 win against the Kansas City Wizards on Sunday evening at BMO Field. Dichio's conversion after a nice pair of passes from Marvell Wynne and Sam Cronin was the only score for Toronto on an impressive attacking performance for the side. It was the second consecutive victory for TFC and their first since the surprise resignation of head coach John Carver on Saturday. Assistant coaches Chris Cummins (who also led the team last Wednesday with Carver watching from a private box) and Nick Dasovic were in charge of the team on Sunday.

Johnston hints MLS officials drove Carver to resignation

TORONTO — After the first training session of the week on Tuesday, then-Toronto FC coach John Carver took the reporters on hand aside for a tutorial.
He cued up several plays from a 3-2 loss to FC Dallas two days earlier that he thought featured questionable officiating.
