De Rosario expects to train Friday
Three-time All-Star resting with tight hamstring

Dwayne De Rosario expects to train on Friday after resting a tight hamstring during the first three days of the week. The four-time MLS Cup winner was substituted late in the game against FC Dallas on Saturday at BMO Field.

"I just felt my hamstring tighten up towards the end of the game," said De Rosario. "I'm not sure why it happened but when it's windy the ball tends to run and you have to stretch more to get it. It could also have been the cold weather. It's just one of those things."

It's no Frei ride to the top for Toronto FC netminder
    By BILL LANKHOF

Stefan Frei has never been big on reality.
The Toronto FC netminder is better with the things that dreams are made of -- like showing up for his first professional training camp and ending up as the starting goaltender.
The Californian, born in Switzerland, has an aversion to today's television fixation on reality shows. Hates 'em. Waste of time.

Default Lakeshore Lions Arena to get Practice Facility for TFC

    http://www.thestar.com/Sports/article/614152

The city took that money and wasted it," Ford said of the $1.8 million, which was held for 15 years before the city used it to add a primary school-size gym at Father John Richmond high school. Ground was recently broken for the gym, which is unsuitable for community basketball use. Ford said the school will not give out permits for community use, anyway. As well, the city is spending another $2 million on a nearby outdoor skating trail, even though its own 2004 study said the area required no more skating facilities.

"Something that can be used 12 weeks a year," Ford said. "To say the community in general and those who live in the Daniels site are upset would be an understatement. Some will say the city stole their money."
They're left to hope something good will happen for them at the old Lions arena.

None of the principals will say much, but there is a complicated deal either agreed to or merely being discussed – MLSE says the latter – by which a three-field soccer complex, including one natural grass field strictly for Toronto FC use, will be built on land west of Kipling Ave., behind the new four-rink complex that, starting in September, will be the practice homes of the Maple Leafs and Marlies.
From what I understand, putting grass in BMO is dependadent on having a soccer facility in place for city resident use. . . well. . it looks like that stopping block is about to be removed

    Have a great day everyone!

Well this is definitely good news on the grass front.....Hopefully this is exactly what the team needs to fully moved forward with grass in the off season.

Every time MLSE does a sports deal with the city, it seems to these eyes, MLSE counts its blessings while taxpayers count their fingers.

Nice find. I had heard that this was in the works. If this proceeds then I think we can expect grass at BMO soon after.

regarding that Lakeshore Lions space.. i wonder where the fields would go? here's a map of the area -- you can see the outlines of the hockey ice pads.

there's a highschool at the top left.. and the old lakeshore lions arena top right, and a public swimming pool at right. from what i read, the Lions gave the school the land that the old arena sits on... i only see room for 1 new field (east-west) across the baseball diamond, and maybe a refurbishment of the highschool's football field.

There's 2 full size FIFA-standard Fieldturf pitches (one of which will be "bubbled" over in the winter - and has a running track around it) and a smaller natural grass pitch as part of the new facility

Well - without posting the plans - it's more or less this

A = New natural grass practice pitch

B = FIFA standard Domed pitch

C = New Ice Hockey Arena

D = FIFA Standard uncovered pitch

E = Existing Lakeshore Lions Arena

I've been there, and there's no way that A fits unless the water tower goes, or gus ryder goes (that's the pool for those of you that don't know, unless the name has changed).

    The rest makes sense...

so the smaller of the three fields would be grass, while the 2 others would be fieldturf? but then basically they are practicing on fieldturf again, which seems to be the issue they want to avoid, right?
the smaller grass field would only be for small-team games.
but i guess they can still practice at BMO.... not everyday but a day or 2 a week of training at BMO field wouldn't kill it.

Since people only seem inclined to bash the press, for fairness sake I'd like to point out that that's a pretty good Frei piece by Lankhoff today.

Isn't that the shocker of the Toronto media scene? Who knew resident wise-acre Lankhof had it in him to write decent soccer pieces? But he's been solid and fair with his coverage so far.
