BMO Field 2nd on council list today
BMO discussion starting now
BMO Field debate has just begun with Kelly speaking first.
Hold on just a minute. While it is true that the Sprint Centre has exceeded most people's expectations of functioning without a major sports tenant, before you go running to (or for) city hall with your great idea -- you might want to do some more research yourself. All the glowing revues you point to above fail to mention the tiny little point that Kansas City is paying $13.8 million dollars a year in debt repayments for the centre. Also, as part of the original proposal, Kansas City's 20,000 seat Kemper Arena (which used to host all these once profitable events) was supposed to be un-effected or eventually "re-purposed". It has not. It now sits largely empty costing Kansas City a further $1 Million dollars a year. Sorry, but that's hardly a financial model I'd want to follow.
That is a horrible speaker... he seems totally unable to answer questions with confidence.
Though I love the questions/statement
is it not true that by doing this we are not responsible for the 15 million in debt that we would have been responsible and instead readjusting that into an investment that is $5 million less.. but would generate $4 million dollars over time for the city while also paying back the initial $10 million, rather then having to pay $15 in repairs with no benefit and no improvements? So this is a good financial deal that is going to save the city $5 in the short term and seeing $14 million returned to the city, while providing potential increased revenue at the stadium which will also see a greater return in revenue being made by the stadium coming to the city...
It's really hard to vote no when you put it in that light.

so whats going on now
Fair comment. I didn't research this one really, I usually do my homework though. I'm pretty surprised they sell more tickets in a year than the Bell Centre in MTL and others with no anchor tenant. But "profitability" might mean they make a few thousand bucks a year, nothing to show an ROI on the cost of building the place or to cover debt repayments like Commie Red just said.
Anyway, doesn't seem to be one of AEGs or Liewekie's best moves. But If KC end up getting an expansion NHL franchise in the next few years then he will be seen as being vindicated though. Doesn't sound like there is an owner up for it there though.
Seems to have passed 39-3
Fords and Del Grande against. Del Grande is leaving and is taking the opportunity to rehash old battles.
Council called for the vote, which means nobody wanted to discuss it beyond those against.
That's it people.
Don't expect to see a home game in March or April for the next 2 seasons.
Which shows Ford doesn't read.
Does the city have 15 million for repairs in the same period?
The city HAS to spend money in the next two years for this. It will go into debt either way. This way the Debt is less, it is not assured (if the reno comes under budget the city is the ones that don't pay (ya right under budger ) ) So Rob Ford Voted to spend 15 million with no return or recoup instead of 10 million with recoup and return.
oh boy to work for the city of Toronto you would haft to be drugs and take lots.
Construction. Home games will be not until May. TL hasn't thought through CCL yet.
oh yeah maybe they could get some home game in Hamilton
CCL changes to summer sched in 2015.

Road Games:
2013 - Montréal , 2014 - Orlando (Disney Classic), Montréal
2015 - Columbus, New England, Montréal
2016 - NYCFC (Leg 2 Conference Semis), Montréal (Leg 1 Conference Final)
2017 - Ottawa (Leg 1 Canadian Championship Semi), DCU, Red Bulls (Leg 1 Conference Final), Columbus (Leg 2 Conference Final)
2019 - Montréal, NYCFC (Eastern Conference Semi @ Citi Field), Seattle (MLS Cup Final)
The thought is it starts at the end of this season and lasts until April. Then again the following year, October to April. I can't remember where I read that or I would post a link.

That's because the Fords have blown through the city's reserve fund to balance the budget and praise his saving the city $1 billion when actually he blew through the $500 plus million reserve.
And voting against a obvious answer just shows more incompitence.
This is a good deal for MLSE and the city. A good deal for us is still remained to be seen.
Thankfully no.
Construction will start right after the EX 2014 with some stuff going on around BMO use but games still on.
Then full construction until May 2015.
Plan is by then to have east concourse and East side upper stands up.
Area must be clear of all construction hoardings etc. for Pan Am games.
Then, after Pan AM, construction around BMO use continues.
Construction until May 2016 when finished.
******
The stadium is going to look very different come May of next year.
