TFC players support MLS expansion in Canada
More teams a benefit for athletes, national squad
    Daniel Girard

CHARLESTON, S.C.–Jim Brennan has seen the difference on Toronto soccer fields.
The jerseys of Juventus, AC Milan, Manchester United and other European clubs are still popular with kids playing the game. But these days so too are the colours of Toronto FC, the lone Canadian team among North America's best, Major League Soccer.
"When you have a team that you support as a kid, and it's local, you can dream of one day playing for that team and that's something special," Brennan, the Toronto native who is TFC's captain, said as the team prepared for tonight's championship game in the Carolina Challenge Cup.

    Our FIRST CUP FINAL TODAY!

I know, I know, a bit dramatic for a pre-season tournament. Nonetheless, I want us to finally have reason to open the trophy cabinet.

not at all dramatic, winning this cup would be a HUGE confidence builder and only a week before the season starts. pre-season or not, can't put a value on this cup!

    +1

regardless of time of season, the first piece of hardware in in a season, let alone team history is a big moral boast

even tho it's just preseason, i'd like to see a win to breed more confidence.
even though i like what I'm seeing so far from the team (despite some problems still), everything always seems so tenuous... I wanna see consistency of success so I can be more certain this play won't get derailed.

I love this quote from Emmanuel Gomez:

"I am the happiest man on the earth. Since I joined Samger back in Gambia, it has always been my dream to play well and be good enough to join a big club. I played with Samger for five years before I was scouted by Toronto."
Okay, so maybe we'll never be Liverpool FC, but we're now a big club, at least from an African perspective. It feels good.
MLS is a tough, physical league, that emphasizes speed, and features plastic fields, grueling travel, extreme weather, and incompetent refs. - NK Toronto

Fingers crossed for today's game. I'd love to be at Shoeless Joe's to see the event. Isn't there ANY WAY for us out of towners to watch this game?

And that SSG? Sweet with Heat!

Nope. Tournament round robin with no actual final game.
