Default Robbo: Fantastic gift from Red Patch Boys

    media-whore alert!!!

Fantastic gift from Red Patch Boys... by Carl Robinson

Published Date: 12 March 2009 By Carl Robinson
OUR final pre season trip was to Charleston in North Carolina to take part in their annual tournament.
I also have to mention the supporters who have travelled over from Toronto to watch us play here. Their support really is incredible and the way we repay them is to make sure we have a great year and try and bring the title to the city of Toronto.

I received a fantastic gift while here from Gary, of the Red Patch Boys supporters group. He gave me some scarves which had my name and picture on which they had made for me being voted their player of the year last year – it was a great gesture and one I really appreciate. Thank you everyone.

MLS is a tough, physical league, that emphasizes speed, and features plastic fields, grueling travel, extreme weather, and incompetent refs. - NK Toronto

    2 things.

Robbo needs a geography lesson. They're in South Carolina

Also it's a good thing the international board is closed considering Robbo's opinions on what the best league in the world is.

Almost certainly. Robbo's automatic for them still.

"We had left a cold Toronto on Friday evening but then had to travel three hours with a two-hour stop-over in Charlotte before catching another connecting flight on to Charleston.

Hardly good preparation for our first match against Charleston Battery in the tournament, but that's part of the MLS."

    Wow -- he sounds pissed.

"We had to reshuffle our team at half time, and I went from midfield to centre back for the second half. I have played there a few times before, and don't mind doing it, but it came a little quicker than I thought."

    Zing!

Not sure how it matters to us if he's in the starting XI...he's still gone.

Robbo is a class act. At first, he didn't want to take them without paying. I asked him to accept four scarves, one for each member of his family, in exchange for signing a bunch scarves there. He also wants a few more for family back in Wales.

For those who want them, there are still a bunch of scarves available - I ordered 200, and about 120 have been "claimed" so far. I suspect one or two of the signed ones will be "raffled" off at various RPB events this year.

BTW, I only found out about this tonight! As much as I'd like to take credit, there are a number of others who deserve it - Daveisonfire for the design, and the RPB Exec for letting this happen, and to everyone who voted in the poll last year. This should be kudos to the entire RPB!

With all due respect to the other scarves out there, most of which are fantastic in their own right...the MOTY scarf design is probably the best. Just my opinion.

Can't wait to get mine. What's the next event Coach? I am away for a week but will be back for Columbus.

    They design & deliver scarves...
    They sing national anthems...
They are the travelling RPB squad. A force to be reckoned with

Thanks for a job well done representing us all.
