Something is different this year, and I don't understand what. It seemed like the weather this year should have been good for growing grass. Also there was way less wear and tear on it than in a...
I'm glad it's TFC on the pitch after these downpours, and not the Argos. The new surface has held up well to the Argos so far, but we haven't had the ultimate test yet (e.g. huge downpour during or...
I agree. I've always been thinking of those advantages and disadvantages. Sometimes that divot a player tears out of the surface when he plants his foot (w/o plastic reinforcement), is the difference...
I didn't get close to the field this time, but it really looked great! It will get more lush, & the roots will connect better with the artificial fibres below ground, as the grass has more time to...
This has always been one of the issues that has worried me. I wonder if there have been any detailed studies of injury risk on the different surfaces, preferably not by a company selling one of the...
Most likely good weather for the Chicago game as well, so hopefully the pitch will still be in good shape when they start with the stitching.
I looked into it. Both the Denver Broncos, and the Pittsburgh Steelers, used to have hybrid plastic/grass at their home fields. They both gave up on it, and switched to 100% natural grass. In Denver...
It wasn't that "they thought they didn't need it." It's that there are risks of a different kind once the pitch is stitched. It was all discussed at the time. With the stitching, you can no longer...
Lots of incomplete and/or false info floating around in here...
What promises weren't kept?
Wait, he's gone up... Maybe he's the head lightkeeper now, and they'll get somebody else to take care of the grounds.
OK even stranger: check the responses to the original tweet that notthesun posted:
This guy tweeted a response: @Johnny_hena
The BMO Grounds Crew account @TFC_GroundsDept responded:
Yes it does seem very strange. However considering the situation, the complaints in past years, the concerns about the Argos groundshare, all the massive investments and promises for this year,...
True. I'm just hoping that it's more about day-to-day pitch management, amount of sand to use, etc. Fingers crossed?! The guy always seemed very thin skinned, could see him not handling the criticism...
Plus they have to deal with a brand new pitch, brand new systems, all just installed by others, and the season already started. Hopefully the basics as they are in place are all OK.
Wow that's nuts!
I loved the LA game at Skydome... (CAI would have been different, much smaller audience.) Very interesting to hear if it was offered though, definitely different from what others have claimed here....
You can see the sand spraying in this video:

Yeah the hybrid wouldn't help with the current situation. It will just prevent the pitch from getting torn up during a game. Hope it's not too late by April.
Why the hell did they put down lots of...
What does everything think about the look of the pitch:

I'm surprised they don't bring those fancy north-end seats inside for the winter.
Build a condo / mixed-use commercial building on the rest of the parking lot, with more underground parking than exists now, and you can help to pay for a good part of that, bada bing, bada boom....
Very interesting, I hope the new pitch doesn't get screwed up before the stitching happens, as TFC is starting early with CCL again...
Not this year, and not early next year during the next CCL (where lots of our injury problems started).
