If that bum Phil Kessel was making 10 mill per year to play on a 4th line, Seba is a fckn steal for 8 mill.

He seems to really be enjoying himself in TO if you look at his Instagram account. He's taking care of his wife and his little boy. They are all set for life if he keeps his contract here. Never saw any stuff like this from Defoe. Plus you can see it on the pitch, he's here to win.

Yep, I agree that the article is sycophantic, but the fact remains that Giovinco is happy here. I doubt we'll get astronomical offers for him, but there are some crazy owners out there in the football world. And I think he's that valuable...to us. Value does have context and, given what he's doing and the fact that TFC have finally, finally hit on a DP who seems like he actually can and will bring us something more than a name and extended injuries, he's worth every penny.
Just a note on that: I believe that in Italy, net salaries (after tax & other deductions) are reported, rather than gross salaries -- and that this is unusual in the football world. The salaries are still interesting compared with Gio, but it does change things a bit.
Giovinco is producing offense at a level previously unheard of in MLS. After the match against Philly he's now averaging 8.0 shots + key passes/game. Next best in the league is David Villa at 6.0. For context, Robbie Keane won MVP last season while producing a league-best 6.1 S+KP/G.
And Giovinco's numbers are including his "slow" start. Lately he's been producing anywhere from 10-15 S+KP/G.
^ The Toronto Star threw up an excellent stat regarding Gio the other day:
Think about that number for a second. 3 out of 4 goals have either been scored by him or assisted by him. And the only player to even come close to that was DeRo back in 2010 and his stat was just over 50%. Also, Gio is trending well to completely surpass the club's record for player goals in a season. DeRo (again) holds the title with 15, but Gio is already at 12 with 16 games to go in the season!Quote:
Giovinco now has 12 goals and nine assists on the season, which means he has been directly involved in 75 per cent of Toronto’s 28 goals. In his last two games alone, he has four goals and two assists.
this guy really deserves a Tifo dedicated to him one game, for sure

Sorry I don't think that can embed. A package SkySports put together of MLS Giovinco with footage from their own broadcasts. The European broadcast deal couldn't come soon enough.

Giovinco remains atop the list of MVP candidates according to mlssoccer.com editors after July.
I thought for sure Lampard or Gerrard would be top of the list!
:drinking: Here's hoping that Sebastian Giovinco is to MLS and Toronto what Wayne Gretzky was to the NHL and Edmonton....
He has a legitimate shot at achieving that, and that says a whole lot.
Gio's position as TFC's MVP for 2015 is a given. How 'bout Gio as MLS MVP for this year? It would be insane to think anybody else in the league is more deserving.
No words describe this player. Simply the best.
Watch Feilhaber on Saturday. He and Kamara are the only two close.

I think the RPB can order those player of the year scarves now.
And to think that originally he wasn't supposed to start the season here. He basically would've only been arriving around now.
