Based on this article, and I haven't looked back at the history, is Toronto the first team ever to be in this position? Meaning having won 2 trophies and then at minimum appearing in the finals for the 3rd?
Seattle and Dallas both had domestic and supporters - but never made the MLS Cup finals.
LA won the shield and MLS Cup, but didn't advance to the domestic cup finals.
I haven't looked up what has happened outside of that. I'm guessing if anyone has been in that position, it was pre 2004?
If Toronto wins the MLSL Cup they will have completed the first Treble (Shield, Cup & Domestic Cup) ever. Other teams have won 2, never the third.
