Two-job coach not a bad option

By GARETH WHEELER (gareth.wheeler@suntv.canoe.ca)

Since firing Jose Mourinho in September 2007, the wheels have fallen off at Chelsea.
Bringing in Luiz Felipe Scolari, Chelsea's latest managerial casualty, and assuming he could produce championship hardware was a mistake. No offence to Scolari, but the rigours of club soccer in the Premiership far exceed what Scolari experienced managing club soccer in Brazil or the Middle East. And not to diminish his accomplishments, but winning the World Cup with Brazil is equivalent to winning a gold medal coaching a Canadian hockey team. It's hard not to screw it up!

Because not enough games are played by the Canadian men's national team, would it make sense for the coach to be active on both club and country fronts?

Good points in that article.

Actually, if I were to nominate a club coach for the CMNT, I would choose John Limniatis of the Montreal Impact. Look at how well he has managed, having mostly USL-quality players like Adam Braz! If you gave him a team filled with higher-level talent, he could go far. Plus he's Canadian, and has played himself with the CMNT, so he understands what everyone has to go through dealing with the CSA.

^ So he is not going to be another Dale Mitchell who has never coached at the highest level with top soccer athletes? I just think we need better from a CV then the l'impact. But with our top players threatening to boycott the team, we need to get this sorted out soon and start building up confidence

I completley disagree with that article....How can a club coach who is dedicated to his team 24/7 during the season, take time out to go and scout Canadian talent abroad and then coach them 2-3 weeks before a tounry then another 2-3 weeks for the tounry?

Lets say Carver were the choice in this instance. TFC would loose him in June and July in order to prep for the Gold Cup.

That's kinda Dumb IMO

Impact will add 3,000 temporary seats if they sell out, bringing capacity at the Big O to over 55,000:

Radio-Canada is doing some.
The Impact tends to be promoted more on the French CBC, I suspect it's due to the idea that it's mainly a Quebec interest.

In the meantime, Saputo has made a decent (though low-budget) video promoting the match.

They've learned from Paul B and TFC what to do to promote soccer. Not a kid or mascot in sight. Just goals, celebrations, hardcore fans going wild, and flares!

Warning: it's a painful video to view, especially the part where they celebrate getting the V-Cup in our house.

I'm guessing that the SRC version will be in HD as well. I think they're other CONCACAF Champs. League coverage was in HD.

Dude, they are playing it on CBC Bold. That's the opposite of advertisement, that's burying it. This is why I can't stand CBC having rights to these games. PATHETIC!

Seems like they changed the top banner with the team logos. Everything seems extra quiet today, no new stories on the TFC site.

Dobson: Boys are back in town
http://www.sportsnet.ca/soccer/blogs/2009/02/17/dobson_boys_are_back/

The session I witnessed Tuesday as was good as anything I've seen with this team. You don't have to trust me. I watched with my pal Craig Forrest and that was his opinion. I trust it.

The Reds did not ship out defenders Todd Dunivant, Tyrone Marshall and Julius James without a plan. We just don't know yet what it is and judging by the Cheshire grin on Carver's face, it could be a big one. It may take another week or two but something is about to happen.

Why would you pay anything more than $10 to see the L'impact. They are doing a good job marketing this game to people that will want to watch soccer at an affordable rate.
