According to Steve Goff, Toronto is in the running for the MLS Cup game behind Seattle

The Insider has been telling you for weeks that Seattle is the front-runner ahead of Toronto and Foxborough to host the championship match

Venue should be the homeground of the finalist which finished with the most points in the regular season.

It would probably be the coldest MLS cup ever! I'd still go though.

Didn't MLS guarantee Toronto an MLS Cup game before 2010 or 2011, when they entered the league?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

yes they did, though I agree with Exiled on how they should choose the venue from now on.

But this means we will get it either this year or next year.

And I think we should play it at RC and pack it with 55,000 +

Given that MLS is still in the selling stages of its young life it requires plenty of time to market the game. I think waiting until a season champ is decided would cut it to close....

.......just my thoughts.

No way the MLS Cup brings out 55,000 people. The only conceivable way I could see that, is if Toronto just happens to be in the game that year.

Even then... 55,000 seems to be shooting pretty high.

well they got 40000 for New England/Houston in DC. (2007 MLS Cup).

The 2002 MLS Cup got 60000 in Gillette stadium for LA vs New England.

I could see it happening again given the size of the stadium. Seattle might be a prime location for a massive turnout given how well they've taken to buying Sounders tickets. But most MLS cups have no been in large stadiums... often they go to places like Home Depot Center and Pizza Hut Park.

Yeah if they do get it, it should take place at the SKYDOME.

No it shouldn't. What's the point of having an SSS if we're not gunna use it for the biggest games?

If we somehow made it to the final, it would be cool moving it to the Skydome. Otherwise, like the all-star game, the point is to showcase and host it in the venue that is normally used.

They might hold off putting the final in Toronto if they know something about stadium improvements. I mean, why showcase BMO as it is, when they might be able to showcase a 25,000 seat BMO that looks finished?

I would hope they wait until they TFC has a defense before they play the final in Toronto :)

Having the league championship final at BMO Field in November is ridiculous - if the game were held in Toronto, it would need to be played in the Dome.

It has been played 3 times in Foxborough, 3 times in DC, and once in Columbus.

there's no way they could offer it to SSH first...

Gillette, oh fuck no.

How shitty will it be to see the MLS Cup played and awarded on a pitch with football lines on it...

same goes for Seattle

MLS Cup should 100% be awarded to teams with SSS. Same with Allstar game...

With that in mind, I'd say TFC is front runner for it...

then again, weather might be a draw back... in that case, maybe Skydome? If TFC is not in it, then what's the harm of going to there?

MLS cup should be at BMO should we get it, our team playing or not.

Champions league games on the other hand...

MLS Cup should be at BMO, I will agree to that.

But Champions League games should vary; depending on who is playing. For a team like Club America, Chivas (de Guadalajara, not the bastard child), Saprissa and probably Montagua, we need less space for opposing supporters to make too much noise; BMO would be the best choice. But for financial reasons, there probably isn't much more choice than to host it at Skydome.

For smaller teams, some of the Central American (i.e. Arabe Unido, LA Firpo) and Caribbean teams (Joe Public) and of course the Americans (Red Craps, Shitlumbus, et. al.), BMO will have to do.

I'm not even thinking away support for Skydome. The reason I suggest the skydome is because if it were a champions league game

A) I would be there.
B) I am not a sth
C) I would bring every TFC approving person I know with me.

That's at least....5 people that would go for sure. On top of another 5 or 10 I could interest if the price was right.

MLS CUP w/o TFC @ BMO

MLS Cup W/ TFC @ Skydome.

nice in theory but impossible to do logistically.

TFC would only know 7 days before the MLS Cup whether they are in the final... shifting the game to Skydome would be impossible with such short notice.

Agreed - the league has to plan something way in advance of knowing who will be in the final.

Either way, the venue should be a SSS every single year, no exceptions. Anything else just sends out completely the wrong message.

Yeah, they also got just over 5,000 for a playoff game at Gillette last season.

SSS when it comes to lines on the pitch... keeping in mind that several pitches will be plagued by this because of it being in November...

Skydome could be screwed up too, if the Argos have success this year...

I don’t think Gillete has football lines anyone more as the Patriots no longer play there - even grass I think.

What is the point of MLS mandating that all new teams have SSS if there is no advantage. If MLS demands this there should be some benefit such as all-star games and MLS Cup games.

If Toronto is awarded the game BMO is the one and only viable location. We all complain how KC, NE and NY play on baseball and football fields. Why would it be acceptable to put the MLS Cup game on a baseball/football field (which isn't grass either)?

since when do the Pats no longer play there?

if they don't play there, then it's news to me, the Patriots, and the world

especially, considering that last time we were down there, they were building an addition to the stadium...

But that was a Thursday night. On a weekend they would draw better.
