Nice interview. But I'm really confused about one thing. He twice mentioned that he was playing in Russia, yet the subtitles said Ukraine. Did he really not know what country he was in? Maybe he doesn't know Canada is not in the U.S and that's why he came :)

Shaughno

Well it was Russian at one point in time.

Vitti was too busy playing soccer to take history classes in school.

im feeling pretty confident in saying that the spanish language has evolved with the times and that they prob have a spanish version of the word Ukraine (im willing to bet its almost the same too)

I dunno with all this talk about his talent he hasn't really proven he can get it done and put balls in the net, of course I expect that to change but his strike rates have never been that impressive

Help me out here.

When he says that..."he will have to adapt to the physical style of the game here...." does he mean the level of physical contact on the pitch or the amount of physical exertion required to play in the MLS...?

What does he mean?

Shaughno
02-12-2009, 12:21 PM
Physical contact I would think, being that he's only 5'9

Based on how I heard it in spanish, he was talking about the level of physical contact. In fact if I remember correctly what he said was he is very technical and very good with the ball at his feet, but he may not be used to the physical contact the MLS brings.

Remember too though that he talked to Schelotto about the league, so he has a one sided view....the view of a diving cheat.

Shaughno
02-12-2009, 12:29 PM
That's also true, can't take a player's spoken word for truth when he had the most dives per minute of any player in the league.

hahaha. Yeah I can just see it.

Schellotto says to Vitty - "Hey man, you gotta be really carefull with the physical contact in this league. I mean, everytime I dive I get carpet burn and the turf at BMO is like landing on concrete."

Yeah, he said Russia. I would imagine he didn't pay too much attention to the geography :D There is definitely a word in Spanish for Ukraine.

Anyway, he seems to be happy to be here, which is a good thing.

Strikers as winners with egos.
Winners that want the ball.

would have loved it if he said. "Physical play. . . . . but they will not get the ball from me, balh blah. . I score gaols. . . b;lah blah Toronto FC is my home, my team, and we are going to win"

ya know, somthing like that.

I think we all just collectively asked him out on a date, and he said yes. That's the only thing that could explain the music.

Well it was Russian at one point in time.

Actually it was never part of Russia, but part of the U.S.S.R., regardless I hope he can put the ball in the back of the net.

If you go back to the pre-Soviet Union times of the Romanov's "Russian Empire", the Ukraine was definitely part of what would have been referred to as Russia.

That said, the Ukraine would have always had a "distinct identity" much like Byelorussia, Georgia or even Finland or Poland which were also all part of the pre-Soviet Russian Empire at one time or another.

lol I think we are focusing too much on if he knows what country he actually played in...All I know is we will see by the end of this year how well he fits into our system The benefit of where he is from, Argentina, they play a lot of football in warmer climates then most european footballers, which only means he wont have the problem adjusting to the heat in Toronto during our summer mid-day matches. I am looking forward to seeing him come play his first game at BMO, but to be honest I think I dont expect him to be a 15 goal scorer either. If he works out here then Mo is a genius, if he doesnt, Mo can still ship him back to Argentina after we try him out.
