It says "If Barcelona is in, they will start 2010" so no, they are not definitely in yet. Sounds like Garber is just constantly hedging his bets (he praises every bid, keeps them on the hook as long as possible).

Barcelona has been playing hardball the entire time, saying they were in 2010, or not in at all. Personally, I would have told them to fuck off, but apparently the bid is good enough Garber doesn't want to let them go yet.

ya Barcelona demands 2010... but they are also the only bid that could be in by 2010, since they are just gonna use that college stadium. So there's no infrastructure to be renovated or built, unlike in Portland/Vanny/Ottawa/St. Louis.

I'm with you Steve, eff 'em. MLS should build a reputation based on play, not who they can find affiliations with.

Remember that the Philly bid is having trouble, so they might wait an extra year to come in.

No.

The confirmation from Garber is breaking news.

MLS commissioner Don Garber confirmed on Wednesday what has long been rumored about the Miami expansion team, which is affiliated with Catalan giants Barcelona: They will begin play in 2010, if their bid is accepted.

"Barcelona and Miami, in partnership with [Bolivian-American tech magnate] Marcelo Claure, are focused on 2010," he said today at a press event here. "If Miami gets a franchise, they’ll be starting in the 2010 season."

See Joey Saputo? That's how you play hardball with a league looking to expand.

Is it possible that Philly would be delayed another year? Haven't they been having financial issues recently? I suppose that it could also be that the league may want to maintain a balanced schedule as much as possible.
