" Toronto FC also was interested in Ricketts, who played the last four seasons with Bradford City, but the Galaxy were his first choice for sentimental reasons. Ricketts had followed the club because of Tyrone Marshall, another fellow Jamaican who played in Los Angeles for several years. Ricketts even called Marshall, who now plays for Toronto FC, for his advice on the potential move and Marshall told him to pursue it. "He said it's the best place to be," Ricketts said with a grin. "When I had a chance to come to the Galaxy, I said, 'Please, let me in.'"

The encouraging part of this nugget of info is that the club isn't satisfied with the status quo in net.

Tried to get Ricketts, drafted a keeper....

Los Angeles vs. Toronto. I'm pretty sure most people would prefer LA over Toronto as far as lifestyle is concerned. We're the Newcastle of the MLS - let's not forget.

"He also figures he'll at least get more of a chance to see the sights"

Pfft. Well he can fucking stay there then - I'd rather have someone hungry to further their career and succeed than someone looking for an easy ride into the starting XI and a comfy lifestyle with a bit of isghtseeing.

Anyway, I'm pretty excited about Frei. if he's as good as we hope he is and he stays with us, he could be a great draft pick.

Donovan Ricketts is not a great goaltender. We didn't miss out on anything. In fact, I venture he's not much better than Cronin.

You mean Stefan Frei (http://toronto.fc.mlsnet.com/players/bio.jsp?team=t280&player=frei_s&playerId=fre267386&statType=current)

Cronin was LA's keeper last year.

What he said. I was referring to Steve Cronin, the guy Ricketts is replacing.

My bad, I thought you were referring to TFC selecting Cronin over Ricketts.

People bitch about league one prospects around here, I'd like to see the backlash on some league two signings

Eek, I'd forgotten quite how lousy his career had become

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donovan_Ricketts

The last bit is hilarious. Pulled from his only game (this year) in the Jamaican league after being hit by the ball and complaining of double vision -- after first making a mistake to give up the game's only goal.

Spose almost anyone is better than Cronin

There was a thread about it, many like me prefer Eastern City's to LA. I have no time for LA. I would take NY, Chicago, Montreal, Boston ect. over LA. There is nothing about LA that attracts me.

I think I'd get sick of L.A real fast.

Its great if your loaded, but if your middle class, its not all that great.

The weather in toronto is better than LA in July and August, if you like it hot and sunny. in July and August our temps actually go wayyyy above LA.

Plus the team plays right next to the lake, right next to the city.. you don't have to drive to the suburbs to get the stadium. I don't think Ricketts is gonna spend much time chillin in downtown LA ;)
He also wouldn't be able to attend Caribana in LA! If the guy spent years at Bradford City, Toronto is a huge step up in terms of weather.

why are we still wasting time talking about this guy, if im not mistaken, he played for jamaica when they played canada at BMO (which by the way was the best experience of my life) and he wasn't at all impressive in any way. I would take Sutton and Frei over him anyday.

yeah screw this guy - he doesn;t look all that good and seems to be after a comfy life of sightseeing and shit.

anyone got any info on who the new CBs will be yet? (other than kenton)
