D.C. United sends Honduran midfielder Ivan Guerrero, a designated player slot and a 2010 second-round draft pick to the Colorado Rapids for 2006 MLS most valuable player Christian Gomez. The Rapids will be responsible for a portion of Gomez's salary, estimated at just under $400,000 this season.

Gomez will likely join the club in Washington later this week and begin training Friday.

why did they trade him in the first place ???

dc really screwed up everything last year. they had a nice team but many decisions went wrong in 2008... trading Gomez was one of them.

Although, their moves in the offseason had them as favorites to do real well. They took chances, it didn't pan out for them. In fact, it could have been different if Gallardo doesn't get hurt.

39 goals in 97 appearances for DCU.
MVP in 2005
The club won the MLS Cup and the Supporters Shield with him

What were DCU thinking, bringing him back?

Well, I think the moves they made seemed good on the surface, but people really didn't know anything about many of the players they signed. They knew what they had with Gomez, but they went for the unknown and it burned them badly.

that's the risk of a massive roster turnover in MLS. It's better to create continuity .. if you have something going well, as DC did, you just need to plug in new pieces here and there occasionally.

Also, the Gallardo thing just shows how risky a DP is. As I've always said, the risk of injury to a DP is a much more substantial hit than a risk of injury to most other players. They paid dearly for taking that risk.

Anyhow, they brought Gomez back so clearly they realized they made a mistake.

Wait, wait, wait...so HOW many DP slots does DC have now? Theirs, or theirs PLUS Colorado's?

OK. :)

(How much does it matter what kind of guy he is? As a TFC fan, I don't love this trade.)

reading DC fan comments, they don't seem that keen on having Gomez back, particularly with losing Guerrero.

DC now has only 1 DP slot being used on Emilio. The Rapids sent their DP slot to DC for Gomez giving DC 2 last season(Emilio and Gallardo). DC just gave it back.

I don't love this trade either.

I don't really care that much about what kind of a guy he is, but he is a douche :D

At least I'll be able to taunt him some more when he plays for DC!

DP slot from Colorado was just for this year, it would go back anyway at the end of year. They're also going to be paying about 50% of Christian's salary. Also gave us international slot and some peon goalkeeper.

As for personality he's probably one of nicest players I've hung out with :) Certainly in top 5 all time most loved in Barra.

That he'd be douche to fans of other clubs makes him even better heheh

if you're not moving forward in this league, given the growth.....you're moving backwards...DCU took a year to go full circle....not looking good for their club :)
