I just read the average temp on April 4 is about 8 degrees. The way this winter has looked I can definately see it being a lot colder than that, and I wouldnt be surprised if it was still snowing by then! That would be a site to see, kinda like the Blue Jays home opener back in the 70's.
Welcome to Canada! :canada:

I think it this year it will get warmer earlier. I am no weather forecaster, but then again those fools always get things wrong. Just my 2 cents.

I think 12 degrees that day...but windy ;)

Early April weather is a bit of a wildcard. I could see the game-time high being anywhere between +20 and -5, depending on what airmass we're getting hit with. As much as I'd like to freeze the opposition, I'm hoping for a warmer season opener.

Farmers almanac says the weather is going to be crap

Winter will be slightly milder and noticeably drier than normal, with below-normal snowfall, except in southwest Ontario. The coldest temperatures will occur in mid-December, mid-January, and mid-February. The heaviest snows will fall in early and late December, mid- and late January, and mid-March.
April and May will be slightly warmer and wetter than normal.
Summer will be cooler and drier than normal, with the hottest temperatures in mid- to late June and early and mid-July. September and October will be cooler and drier than normal.

Might be the first match ever where hot drinks (coffee?) will out-sell beer.

Hehe, I was thinking the same thing. I think I've slept in my TFC hoodie before.

Who cares!
I plan on chanting, singing and yelling the full 90mins. Keep moving and you'll be fine!

That being said, I'm glad I'll be wearing my luchador mask and scarf will probably now come in handy in keeping me warm. :)

8 degrees? Sounds like balmy spring weather to me :)
Of course Toronto is farther south than up here in the valley in the woods.

As long as it's not raining I am good. Being a bit cold is one thing but cold AND wet sucks the big one.

Wiarton saw his shadow...enough said!Which if I understand it, means there will only be 6 more weeks of winter - so an early spring this year in mid-March!

1983 - +23°C high
1953 - -11°C low (though it had warmed up to -4°C by mid-afternoon).

I certainly wouldn't want to be in the upper row of the stands at BMO at below freezing - the wind really rips off the lake. Sigh, I'll probably still be there though ...

can you imagine if it was +23 on opening day like in 1983??
that would be like a gift from the footy gods.

25 is only depressing if TFC loses.

does the temperature have an effect on the field at BMO? The players don't like the pitch on warm days, I can't imagine they will be very happy to play on it on a super cold day!

dag
02-06-2009, 04:50 PM
With proper thermal underclothes and gloves, the players should have no major difficulty keeping themselves warm on the pitch. It's the referee and linesmen I feel sorry for.

I dont care what anyone says, the 'worse' the weather, the better!

Im still crossing my fingers for our first snow game. :yesnod:

nfitz
02-06-2009, 07:04 PM
That might work in the US's favour, playing Mexico in Columbus in early Feb (yikes!), but I'm not sure our players will be any more suited to the cold than theirs ... except perhaps Ricketts ... he's probably sleeping in an igloo somewhere ...
