Seeing as how the MLS schedule has been released, let's get the ball rolling on the friendlies.

Who you think we'll end up playing; or for that matter, who would you like to see?

I may be remembering incorrectly, but isn't there just one friendly?
But Voyageur Cup games included in the season ticket package?

I may be completely wrong about that though...

I would love to see Man United and Newcastle....but that will never happen. I would think that they would go after some championship or leauge 1 teams.

We know of Carolina challenge cup. Are there any other preseason friendlies that we know of?

And for the love of lud, NO mid season friendlies! I'm going to be very annoyed if another ROB incident happens due to a friendly and TFC misses playoffs

I'd like to see a club from somewhere other than England.

But my guess is that it'll be a team like Everton.

I know Rangers or Celtic are not likely, but what about Hibs? hearts? motherwell?(that's for you matty)
What about a Bundesliga team? Likely couldn't draw Bayern, but what about Dortmund, Schalke, Werder?

A Dutch Side?

What about Asia?

If it was a championship side i would like to see Queens Park Rangers. Been following them because of a friend I used to work with. Celtic or Rangers would be great! (The return of Edu!). What about Serie A teams??? Juventus I would love to see!! ( Mabey Mo can work out a deal for Del Piero??) lol.....

Hibs makes so much sense. I've mentioned it before, but back in the days immediately before the NASL was created, Toronto City FC played in the United Soccer Association and the team actually consisted of the Hibernian roster that was imported over from Edinburgh.

I say no to friendlies. Put the money towards a future DP. It's not cheap to bring in the likes of Aston Villa and such.

And besides, we don't need our players to spend energy on friendlies during a mid-season. It's Mickey Mouse, as we're discussing in the other thread :D

Uhhhh...

I'm assuming that's in reference to the way Mo parted ways with Celtic as a player.

Just because Johnston left Celtic to go to Rangers, doesn't mean that he doesn't have a relationship with the club and its staff to this day. When he played there, he was a hero, and as we've seen over the last two years, players that were heavily linked to TFC in John Kennedy, and now celtic coaching staff member Neil Lennon

I have heard the John Kennedy rumour on these boards but never the Neil Lennon one, what do you mean Neil Lennon might come to TFC, as manager?

I cannot see him leaving the Celts anytime soon despite the hassle he gets from some idiots in Glasgow. Lennon is a Celtic man though and through and he is loved by the Celtic support, there is a good chance that he will be in line to be the next Celtic manager when WGS leaves.

I would love to see TFC play Celtic, Real Madrid or Barcelona in a friendly. I went to see Barcs play Hearts in Edinburgh two season ago and they were unbelievable even when not giving 100%. It was the first time I ever seen Bojan play for them and you could tell straight away that he was gonna be a fantastic player despite his age and size, he was immense.

I don't want to see any friendlies in the middle of the season, it is a stupid idea that puts our top players at risk of injury for no reason at all. If they really need to have friendlies they should do it in the winter months against teams from Germany and the like that actually take a winter break.

Parkdale
01-29-2009, 04:47 PM
... that puts our top players at risk of injury for no reason at all.

but on the otherside, it gives some of our bench guys some much needed game experience, especially with the reserve league being eliminated. I agree that we need to avoid injuries at all costs, but starting guys like Ibby in a friendly match will only help in their development.

I can respect that.

It would look border-line retarded on my fat ass.

There was actually talk of a Rangers/Celtic/Toronto mini cup, being played in Toronto - but it was going to work out too expensive.

I can't believe someone paid $96 million for fuckin Derby County.

I'd love it if they came so I could throw rocks at Kris Commons, (as AC pointed out)...and get Nigel Clough's autograph!

So my picks are: Derby, Independiete, Cruz Azul...and...

I don't know...Bolton and Everton are both good picks..one's affiliated with the Lynx and the other the OSA, so both got a good reason to come here.

I know. all the more reason to detest OL.
I dislike Bordeaux because their kits make them look like little sailor boys.

1. i actually like that kit (but not the team...then again, i just bought a Kia)

2. Marseilles sucks and so do those God awful baby blue kits

3. Fuck Domenech

4. ALLEZ ALLEZ ALLEZ L'OL ALLEZ!

I also think it will be Rangers this year. I have no reason to doubt the source .

What would St Pauli be without politics? A shitty 3rd rate team that no one would give a fuck about. Shame the actual game has taken a back seat with this team.

Don't be hatin' St Pauli are a third rate team, but their fans are passionate and loyal. Sound familiar?

Rangers would be interesting - Theyd' probably try and get back on the bus without Edu though.

maybe part of the transfer fee was to get a friendly against Toronto FC.

No.

Their fans are fairweather more interested in the image and politics rather than the game and team itself. St Pauli is one of the biggest bandwagon teams there is.

That's what i gathered as well...

It has to be a team that will get people into BMO...therefore, I nominate the mighty Lithuanian side, Hearts FC.

Seriously, probably will be a mid range European side like a Feyenoord, Panathinaikos, or a Depotivo La Coruna (now that one would be interesting).
