Perfect...

Then I can decide if it's worth it to buy Air Canada Flight Pass for away games... their Escape Pass is on sale. If the dates work out, it's only like... $350 for round trip to LA/Seattle/Texas

I'm absolutley positive that I will miss one of the following this summer because of TFC: cousin's wedding, niece/nephew's birth, family reunion...it's just a matter of which one or more than one. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

What takes so long to try and assemble a complete league schedule, you may ask? Various factors go into the equation, including trying to schedule amidst stadium blackout dates in each market (especially those cities without soccer-specific stadia), around international dates (a big priority for the league this year), avoiding mid-season competitions, preferred national TV dates, and this year, an odd number of teams.

If the league falls inline with the FIFA calender this year I will give them a lot more respect than I do now!

This would be the best step forward in the long term the league can make to grow the game. It costs nothing to schedule differently and maximizes who will show up for games. Raising the cap, adding DP spots and building stadia will help but cost far more to the league.

I'm ecstatic with this news. I can't wait to see how much they schedule around.

Air Canada has flight passes for one way credits as well as unlimited travel for frequent flyers. The Escape Pass is to incentivize people to travel in Jan/Feb/Mar/April/May the low season.

You can find out more in their website.

I'll however, wait for schedule, do my cost-benefit analysis and post it in Away Trips board if I find it worth buying them personally. ;)

Last year I missed several games due to vacations, a graduation, and a wedding, this year I should only miss one game at the most. I'm crossing my fingers that April 11 will be a road game, or a home against anybody but LA, Chivas, or Colorado.

Yes, but before we all get carried away, MLS said it would do whatever it could to avoid FIFA dates. However, they did say not all of them could be avoided.

i think the assumption is that the previous championship winner gets the last game at home, and that the last game of the tourney will come on Canada Day, as they need to get the tourney done by then. So it could be TFC @ Limp Act on Canada day.

By law all leases in Quebec expire on July 1 (federalists have a suspicion that the date is not completely random). Compounding things, Quebecers are more likely to move from one part of their city to another than are Canadians in other provinces (there are some interesting sociology theories as to why that I won't bore you with today).

So July 1 in Quebec is widely known as Moving Day.

You know, it used to May 1st but it was changed to the end of the school year so kids wouldn't have to change schools.

When I lived in Mopntreal I moved acorss the street and helped friends who moved two doors down.

Still, July 1st would be a great day for a game in Montreal.

Let me just say this about FIFA dates: we supported the league's efforts to have a league wide break on two of the five summer breaks. And then we did the math: we'll lose only 2 of 3 players during that time. The much worse scenario is gold cup where we could lose up to 8 or 9 players.

So we actually told the league we'd support a break during gold cup. So when you see the schedule bear that in mind!

We are one team/voice in the league. The more breaks the better. Anyone complaining needs a lesson in patriotism (whatever country they support).

Lucky Strike

Also noticed fewer fixtures in June (because of the Canadian Championship) and July because of the Gold Cup.

No retardedly long breaks or massive fixtures stacks either. This isn't too bad.

And one again, LA Galaxy will be here on a day when Beckham has an international call-up (presuming he is healthy).

They will be here June 6th, the same day that England has a World Cup qualifier game in Kazakhstan.

Three years in a row ...

Should be a pretty pathetic game, as Canada will surely have a friendly that day, Wales will be in action ... and Honduras is playing the United States that day. Hopefully MLSE hasn't got the gall to call it a premium game!

Only one weekday evening game ... Wednesday April 22nd. Yikes, that could be cold! The first evening game last year was Thursday May 1st, and was quite miserable weather. If that ticket isn't in my partial pack, I'll be tempted to watch it on TV!

I guess vacation this year will be late-August! Time to go visit the relatives in downtown Seattle!

not enough night games mid week. Too hot at 3:30pmThat's where the Champions League comes in. Assuming that we take Impact and Vancouver this time (and the 4 matches which should fill up some of the space in June and July), there will be preliminary round matches mid-week July 28th and August 4th. And then group stage matches almost weekly starting August 20th.

If we perform like we should, there would then be 6 mid-week home matches (and another 6 mid-week away matches)!

The USL schedule will be released next week. The V-Cup schedule will come out after that.

June 13 and June 20 are good bets for at least one game, however. I suspect we will start in Vancouver...May 26 or 27 would be my guess.

If I were a betting man:

May 26 @ Vancouver
June 13 v Montreal

July 1 @ Montreal

less heatstroke, and the pitch doesn't glow in the sun like a green tiled floor.

no afternoons are better for the travelling tfc fans...we dont have to eush for transit that night games bring. the heat drink more benerages,

Yes. Night games are very much gooder. I just like the night games a bit more. Little louder atmosphere and I'm not fighting mid day/afternoon Toronto traffic to get in and out of the stadium. Plus, the border is dead later on so I can get home quicker.

How many players are we liklly to loose when the CMNT plays friendly in Cyprus on May 30 and we play in Houston the same day?None. It's not an official FIFA international date, so TFC doesn't have to release anyone. I expect this will be strictly using European players who will have been released from their clubs already by then.

However, I'd think if the CMNT already has a friendly scheduled for May 30th, then they would be having a camp going, and would also want to play twice again from June 6th to June 10th, which are official FIFA days.

DeRo certainly sounded pretty iffy about playing for Canada in the recent interviews. I doubt that Dale will even attempt to call up any MLS players - the same as with Estonia last year. What a great schedule. Most definitely our best one yet. Let's look at the details:
15 home games.

We play each team in the league once at home, except New York Red Bulls: we face them twice at home. Real advantage! The away team we face twice is Columbus Crew. Real advantage in terms of road trips!

12 games are to be played on a Saturday. 9 of them at 3:30 p.m., 1 at 1:00 p.m., 1 at 7:00 p.m., and 1 game is TBD.

1 game on a Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

2 games on a Sunday, one is at 3:00 p.m., and the other is TBD.

WOW! Advantage Toronto F.C., club as well as supporters. Saturday is the best day for a football game. No work for most of us the day after as well. But really, I want to highlight the opportunity we have in facing NYRB twice at home and Columbus twice away. Yes, I know they are defending champions, but at least it gives us a chance to show strong away support towards the end of the season.

Another advantage is that the home stretch is comprised of 3 home games, and then finishing in NY against NYRB.

We lucked out on this one, lads!

Luck had nothing to do with it ;)

-its pretty balanced
-Playing on WCQ breaks (with amado and marvell out) is better than Gold cup (with 8 or 9 guys out).
-Only 3 games in Toronto during July Aug (when afternoon games are killer for fans and players alike)
- it is front loaded at home (get out of the gate strong one would hope)
- strong finish at home
- bear in mind that when we come out of Canada we have an additional 2, and more likely 8 games - so the second half of the season could be a grind (if we do it right).

The V-Cup was a fan driven initiative eight years ago when no one -- and I do mean no one -- in Canada gave a rat's behind about club football. So, it rubs a lot of us the wrong way when people avoid calling it by its name.

Yup. I would have been on the founder's list if I wasn't a starving student at the time.

Either way, we pushed hard for the V-Cup to be used as the trophy for this competition, so it should get the respect it deserves. By 'we', I'm including RPB, who lent their name to the many voices who lobbied the CSA at the time.

Based on the home opener change where DC United will play Chicago rather than San Jose it sure sounds like the Washington rumour may be true that B. Obama will attend the DC home opener. He is a footy fan.

This can only serve to raise the MLS profile - if it comes to fruition.

Besides the shifting of the NY and RSL games, there were a number of time changes (a number of games, although none late in the season, were moved to 4pm - is this to accomodate the CBC I wonder?):

the Seattle opener April 4 is now at 4pm (brrrrr!)

the Columbus game May 2 is now at 4pm

the NE game May 23 is now TBD

the DCU game on August 23 is now at 4pm

However, as you can see above, people are also using it to substantiate erroneous information - so it really shouldn't be there. Actually now that you mention it, I do remember this Cup. Chile and Northern Ireland were involved one year (it was held entirely in Edmonton that year), and Paul Peschisolido scored a brace in one of the games.

That was 1995 or so, IIRC. Not the early 80's (you may be talking about the Sir Stanley Matthews Cup, which was mid-late 80's).

The fact that there was a Canada Cup of soccer is even more reason to not refer to this Voyageurs Cup competition (officially known as the Nutralite Canadian Championship for at least one more year, nfitz) by that name.
