WHOA, WHOA, WHOA! Wait a minute. They are JUST NOW tearing down the mall and plan on having the new SSS FINISHED in 2010?

Technically that's nearly two years to complete it...remainder of 2009 and all of 2010. Ready for 2011 season.

jesus christ, i just checked google maps. this place is twice as far from downtown as arrowhead! maybe there was a reason the mall was abandoned... morons!

Well the SSS is just apart of a bigger plan that would basically create a city around the stadium. With hotels, shopping, restaurants, it makes it the only place you need to go for traveling fans.

Okay that makes more sense. I was thinking that they were going to have this thing ready in a year.

From what I've been reading on some KC sources one of the reasons the Mall failed was because of a lot of crime in the area. How or will that be addressed?

You're not going to attract casual fans if while they are in watching some footy somebody is breaking into their car.

from what I read, that area was once a thriving place (the mall was successful). then the economy took a dump years ago and things fell apart. recently the mall was half closed and it had really lowend businesses in it. So naturally the area declined and crime set in.

Part of the reason this huge project is going ahead (with a stadium as only a portion of it) is that it's supposed to be a revitalization project, like the Chester stadium for Philly. Chester is even a worse dump than this area for the KC stadium.
