View Full Version : Dichio24.com Blog Competition - What Song Should the Team Run Out To and Why?

Up The TFC
01-20-2009, 05:25 PM
Danny's asked me to solicit some entries for the new competition on his blog (http://www.dichio24.com/blog/?p=128).

If you've ever thought you could choose a better song for TFC to run out to than 'The Boys Are Back In Town', now's your chance to make it happen.

Leave your choice for the song - and your reasons why - in the comments on the blog and Danny's going to try to get it played before a game.

There is also a TFC-related prize for the winning entry.

Anything goes as per the song choice, but he did say 'no Spandau Ballet'! ;)

Don't they come out to the MLS anthem?

Or is this something else?

I think he means when the guys come out for warm ups 25:00 before the anthems.

I have two entries:

Take Us Out - Rudy Soundrtack

If you've ever seen the movie Rudy, you know how good this song is. Not only does it rival the movie in terms of quality, but I honestly believe this song is easily the most inspirational piece of music I've ever heard. My hairs stand up every time I hear this. All I can say is please listen to the link below.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-OAIfdwmUU

My second choice would be 500 Miles - The Proclaimers

Come on. This song doesn't need explanation. It incorporates our extreme passion to see TFC no matter what the distance into music. Oh, and I forgot to mention... It's an awesome song. I think this would be awesome to blast over the loud-speakers, and most people know the song pretty well already. In terms of meaning, I think there are few songs out there that match this.

My Town is not a get fired up song, so I'm with you FluSH. I'm not sure Legend TFC is either though.

Are You Red? (Is that the song name? I'm hopeless with music) That one could be good if we're going for TFC songs.

I'm not sure if there's anything good to use from it, but by god it'd be cool to have some music from the film "The Hunt for Red October" just because I love the word play there... though perhaps no one would get it or know where the music was from. :P

Maybe I misunderstood, but I got the impression from the site that it was to be an adrenaline-pimping, get the team & fans amped kind of song.....

"I want to know which song you think would be the best for the team to run out to before the game. It can be any song which you think might get the team pumped or ready before coming out to battle!!"

I'd like to get away from the Jock Jams they play at hockey rinks.

I don't mind Northern Touch, though they have some Van City representation.

I think you have to go with something Toronto-centric and something that moves away from jock jams and something that stands up over a season.

Fort Minor - "In Stereo" (if they have a clean version. I'm sure they wouldn't play this song with all the swearing)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YATCSOee-Mw

Well the song hypes up the crowd and goes on about how we're wired, fired up and fucking ready to go...Just reminds me of alot of pre-game routines (bar, etc) :D

But that's an unrealistic choice...

then it goes on to warn the guys on the corner (opposition benchwarmers at 127) that if they're standing on that corner (infront of 127 lol), they're getting the show (NEE hospitality) ;)

F*ckin In the Bushes would be perfect, but I don't know how well blasting "You B*STARDS" over the PA will go down with management. :D Could always get around that by starting it after the talking bit at the start though.

My suggestions are the TFC version of My Town (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y70baI7znvk) and Columbia by Oasis (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeeGC2FVAOs). The Hindu Times (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TriGF_hoWTI) would also work awesomely.

I think any Oasis song would be perfect in fact, seeing as they're like they're pretty much the unofficial band of football...

Morning Glory would be awesome. The beginning of that song would be amazing at BMO - the guitar opening with that single beat drum is awesome.

Click on the links, I dare you to try to find any connection between any of the songs I just posted and a song by The Beatles. No offense to you personally, but 'Oasis are a Beatles rip-off' is a mantra constantly repeated my music critics (who are among the biggest lowlifes on the planet, in my opinion) and people who have only heard three of their songs.

Uh, whiny and miserable? whiny and miserable describes the emo shit on the Edge these days. Ever been to an Oasis show? Liam Gallagher is anything but whiny and he's certainly not miserable. Sorry if I come across a bit strong here, but people bash Oasis without knowing the first thing about them or having heard a song by them not named Wonderwall, Live Forever or Champagne Supernova, and it grates on me.

He's saying he's as good as John Lennon, if not better, in typical Noel Gallagher semi-tongue in cheek arrogance. Not saying he takes his songs and copies them or even tries to copy The Beatles' style. There's a difference. ;)

Big response here, which is great.

Can't say I am that bothered though. Only once can i ever remember beign in my seat that early and there was no-one around to get pumped with, and even if there was, the pumping would have faded away and be long gone by the time the game starts.

Still, good fan interaction from Danny though and let's be clear I am NOT knocking the idea or this thread. Just saying to me, personally, it doesn't matter too much, although it's interesting to hear some of the suggestions!

One thing I wish they'd do:
stop with the tune and the double decker bus video at the begining of the pre-game stuff.
The South End will be singing and chanting...which i think is a better opening...only to be muffled out by that lame "do-do do do" song.

Going to a Scottish World Cup Rugby game, I have never been more disappointed to see a score in a game by the home team, then when Scotland scores. To have to hear this song about 5 times in one game is gut wrenching. Please not this song hah

Tho I do love this song, I think that it is not a warmup song per se. I think they are looking for something to pump up the crowd and the players, and tho this song resonates strongly amongst all of us, and strong supporters of TFC, I don't think the casual fan, or many of the people not associated with a supporters club would have any idea what was going on, or why they should be excited by a slow folksy sounding song.
I agree with the idea of playing it after the game, or perhaps in a moment where the team does not need that energy boost.
Again, great song, love to sing it, but the thought of it being a pub song, I do have to agree with.

So far, the best suggestion has been AC/DC thunderstruck.

That song pumps me up more than any other song ever played. In fact, they really need to ban listening to it while driving, since one day during a thunderstorm this came on and I got so excited I almost rammed into the person in front of me. Also, the sound of fans stomping on the metal stands has been likened to thunder before, so it fits. Just imagine the stadium (well, the 200 people there at this time) all screaming "Thun-Der!" in unison while stomping (twice). Pump up our team? Check. Scare the crap out of the other team? Check.

this thread solved nothing. as usual. all i can say is: just about anything suggested on here is 1000X better than "my town"... and the only thing 1000X worse than "my town" is "the legend TFC". if "the legend TFC" is adopted, we have every right to be laughed at. the "legend TFC". give me a fuckin break. the only thing we are a legend at so far is finishing last. leave the "legend" stuff for a few years down the road.
