Galaxy and D.C. join Toronto as biggest winners

By Ives Galarcep

ST. LOUIS -- With three first-round picks, Toronto FC always figured to be one of the controlling forces in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft. However, it was believed that Toronto would influence the draft by trading away some of those draft choices. When Toronto ended up keeping its picks and watched the draft fall in a way it could have only dreamed of, the Canadian club emerged as the big winner.
Along with Toronto, D.C. United and Los Angeles walked away as the biggest beneficiaries of a deep draft that had intriguing prospects available all the way up to the fourth round.

Here's how we think the 15 teams did at the MLS SuperDraft: TORONTO FC: A-plus

Frei seem to be the big surprise that got away from many teams...Lets hope he can make the TFC starting roster march 21!!

Five years from now, RSL will wonder how it took Alexandre ahead of Stefan Frei (whom it could have traded).

no joke.

remember yesterday how pumped we all were when people passed on Frei?
A collective 'WTF???' went up. How could they pass?

Sutton is good enough to start for this team. We need some offence. Just look at the numbers. We need our strikers to perform

He has two regular writers on his site, at least one of whom attended the draft.

We got a striker.

I agree we need more offence, but at a draft you take the best player available when your turn comes up.

but hes not good enough for Canada...Lets face it Suttons days are slowly coming to and end, if TFC want long term success then bring in some of the younger players right away, and from all reports Frei is more then capable of being TFC starts on opening Day...which leaves Edwards
or Sutton, or Monslave expendable...Sutton would be good trade bait, get a first or second rd pick for him.

yeah, LA proved that having two inexperienced young goalies on the bench was a great idea last season

Why? Frei hasn't even played a game ... there is no way we should be trading the only proven, yet rapidly aging, goalkeeper away without even getting a look at the new kid.

Sutton is only 31 years old, people. That's NOTHING for a goalkeeper. And before we sell him for a few picks, let's not forget how strong he was last season. He was one of our best players. Why on earth would we rid ourselves of that?

Trading Sutton is a terrible idea. He's not talented, or American enough to demand a return that would be equal to his value to us.
