Is Veron out of Contract. I know a few MLS teams were close to acquiring his services, however he is an attacking midfielder (but was the SA player of the year) and I think we are looking for a striker

The player doesn't have to be out of contract. I know MLS won't be paying any transfer fees, but we've had two Colombians try out with TFC who were under contract, their teams were ready to release them if TFC made an offer.

Having said that, I have a feeling it's someone nobody knows.

Lucas Barrios would be a nice addition.

"Lucas Barrios was about to sign a four year contract with AS Nancy Lorraine (France), but Colo-Colo's president, Gabriel Ruiz Tagle, on the afternoon of January 12, 2009, declined the offer by AS Nancy, but he said perhaps the french club may get a counteroffer"

Transfer fee = no chance.
Would have been nice though.

I kind of read into it as "doable" means he received the green light up to a certain amount of millions per year, the board probably gave him the o/k up to 2 million and the "SA Striker" is probably asking around 2.5 million per year...which MoJo thinks is still "doable" yes/no??

Wow, in the Ecuador he lit it up, didn't do much, didn't get much time at Boca, according to his wiki, didn't do to well in Argentina and moved clubs three times (two short loans?) in 2008. That's probably more a factor of age and the club trying to get him playing time, though.

According to Vitti’s wiki he hasn’t scored a goal in several years, a little off putting for a striker. Of the players suggested, Escalada looks like the most attractive signing.

Maybe a Brazilian striker who’s bounced around a little? Mo was rumoured to have been sighted at a Botafogo match during one of his scouting trips. Maybe Weldon or Reinaldo caught his eye?

Thank you MLS en Espanol.net (http://www.mlsenespanol.net/) for the translation..!!

According to an article published on FutbolRed.com (http://www.futbolred.com/mustang/noticias/pretemporada2009/freddy-montero-afirmo-que-hara-la-pretemporada-en-la-mls-y-sigue-pendiente-de-espana/4756841) today, Freddy Montero is ready to join Seattle Sounders FC's preseason.

"I am waiting for my tickets to start preseason with Seattle Sounders", Montero said. "Meanwhile, I have been spending time with my family and playing soccer with my friends", he added.

However, Montero may end up not playing in MLS in 2009. La Liga's team Betis is still negotiaiting with Montero's agent...

"I know Betis is very interested, but I will only wait until January 31st. If they [Betis and his agent] don't reach an agreement that is satisfactory for both parties, I will stay in MLS."

"In my opinion, La Liga is the best league in the world, but if I have to play in MLS, I will be very happy to do so", Montero added.

Seattle Sounders FC starts its preseason in January 18th.

Not that Mo wouldn't pull an end-around.

From what ive read around hes been on the outs at Independiente for a bit and is returning from loan in Ukraine and apparently is waiting for someone to pick him up.

I did see the brazilian bit and outside of that they seem to have 2 things in common, age and speed, so it could be that Keay heard slightly wrong?

Vitti seems to be a pretty realistic acquisition and seems to have the 'most' information backing it up (i use that term very very loosely). I dont think its totally unrealistic.
