hey

i know its Wikipedia but is this true?

He was traded on August 19, 2008 to Toronto FC which in turn released Laurent Robert (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laurent_Robert) to make room for Ruiz. He was expected to help solve TFC's goal scoring woes as he has 82 goals to his MLS credit, but managed only five first team games, in which he scored no goals.[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_Ru%C3%ADz_(football)#cite_note-5)
However, he was released by Toronto after they signed Dwayne De Rosario (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwayne_De_Rosario). It has been rumored that Seattle Sounders FC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seattle_Sounders_FC) are interested in signing Ruiz.

I know the roster page isn't always the most updated source of info, but it has DeRo listed and Ruiz still on there as well. I wonder if he might still be worth keeping around with DeRo in town. He might give a damn then.

i think he's still on the roster on MLSNET.com because he wasn't released... they just won't offer him a new contract, which in real terms is the same thing.
We still have Freeman on the roster on the site too.

Ruiz's contract was up after this season, so we didn't really have to do anything.

He's been released, end of story.

Toronto helped clear some of financial obligations by releasing high-priced Guatemalan forward Carlos Ruiz, acquired in an August deal with the Los Angeles Galaxy. In five games for Toronto, Ruiz did not add to his 82 career MLS goals. His salary for last season was a hefty $460,000.

I think all contracts run til Dec 31st. So Ruiz is probably still part of our roster (similiar to Freeman) until the end of the year.

There has been only one media report of a release and that was from Neil Davidson at CP. Neil is the top of the profession IMO but I've not read any similar reports anywhere else thus far including the TFC site.

If he'd been released, I'm sure it would be common knowledge by now.

Wow, really? I get the impression that there are people on this board far more knowledgeable about football and sport in general than that pud.

Ya, ok sure. You keep thinking that if it makes you happy. :drinking:

Neil is CP's national sports editor, aside from writing about soccer....which he does so often because he's a fan, not because they tell him he has to. Fuck, everyone's an expert here, eh? By the way Blizz, is that Guinness?

I sure hope so! :)

BTW, Neil is a super nice guy and I have nothing but respect for his work.

Without Neil running the CP sports department, I shudder to think where we would be.

We should be grateful he's there.

You're right J.

I just don’t see it. I really don’t think Neil Davidson brings any insight or expertise to reporting on soccer / football. I feel he’s a prime example of the casual mediocrity that’s sadly become the norm in our country.

Lets just agree to disagree on this one.

Ther was a rumour over on the Sounders forum that Sigi may take Ruiz for next season. I dont see them being able to fit him in under the cap though.

It would be nice if Mo could put together a deal involving Ruiz and half a tube of ben gay, a few footballs, some socks, two rolls of a tape................ and anything else we can throw into a bag and send along with Ruiz to sweeten the deal.

Just getting Ruiz off the books and out of the TFC shirt is sufficient. Don't care for him and glad he's gone.

And Ultra, easy on Neil D. I've seen his byline in papers all over the country for years. He's put a lot into helping inform otherwise ignorant Canadians about soccer. He has more than a catchy internet forum handle and a spiffy avatar going for him. He gets a weekly paycheck to put his name beside what he writes. Not only do papers publish it, people ackshually read it. You only wish, bucko. Don't we all.

ruiz doesn't have a contract for next year from what i understand. so Sigi might be able to get him cheap, coming off his worst year. he ain't gonna get even close to 400K+ next year.
