Ghana's Appiah laughs off reported link to MLS

Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has said that reports linking him to Major League Soccer made him "laugh very loud."

Respect...MLS has to start earning it for real...

MLS would be very luck to have a player of his quality.

Goff: DCU and FCD passed on Stephen Appiah

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider/2008/12/a_is_for_appiah.html

Okay, here's what I have been able to piece together: DCU was approached by an intermediary late last month about possibly acquiring Appiah on a free transfer (http://news.myjoyonline.com/sports/200811/22487.asp). His salary, of course, would not be free -- far from it.

Appiah would have been willing to play in MLS for $2 million per season, a figure probably far less than his future earnings in Europe. Why come to MLS for less money? For a new career opportunity and the chance to live in America.

DCU managing partners Victor MacFarlane and Will Chang showed keen interest in him and were in direct contact with the intermediary, I'm told.
To accommodate Appiah's designated player status, DCU would have had to reach a departure settlement with oft-injured Argentine Marcelo Gallardo -- whose $1.9 million contract in 2009 is guaranteed -- or find a suitor in Latin America (or perhaps both).

The club initiated plans to bring Appiah to Washington for meetings, but in the end, for reasons unclear, decided not to seriously pursue him.

In stepped FC Dallas, which is in the market (http://www.soccer365.com/mls/story_161208165550.php)for international help. FCD was also prepared to fly Appiah in and discuss a possible deal. How eager was Coach Schellas Hyndman to open talks? To the point where he was planning to fly to Europe. However, management determined the $2 million salary figure was more than it would be willing to spend on a designated player and the situation fizzled.

If that story is true troy, these might be the words of an embarrassed footballer, because little ol' MLS even passed on him.

yeah i don't think he's worth 2 million a year...

i would peg his value/worth somewhere around 1.25-1.5 million per year...

There's been interest in him from AC Milan, Tottenham and Portsmouth - anyone of those clubs will pay him more to sit on the bench than he'd make starting in the MLS.

From wiki:

"On the 7th September 2008, Sky Sports reported that Stephen Appiah was the subject of interest from English Premier League clubs Arsenal, West Ham United, Portsmouth And Chelsea. Each of the four clubs were reported to have representatives at Ghana's 1-0 defeat to Libya"

Hmmm...Chelsea or FC Dallas, who would you chose?

Step 1: Read Declan Hill's book, "The Fix"

Step 2: Come to realization why Stephen Appiah is still without a contract

Ghana would probably still lose to brazil. Also Appiah would never accept any offers from the bookies.

Appiah is not being touch by anyone because of his connections in the past with Asian betting syndicates.

Which is why it's a perfect scenario.

Going to see him play is a far cry from actively looking to sign him.

And judging from that popped collar shot, he has an ego from here to Pluto.

One thing I've always enjoyed - why is it that every egotistical, alpha-male, popped collar dimwit always ALWAYS has a cross around his neck.

The tenets of Christianity, and personal vanity, would seem to be diametrically opposed to one another.

He fancies himself a superstar, which he isn't. He thought he was too good to be at Udinese so he left, and has spent eight years floundering on the benches of other clubs. He couldn't even secure a starting job at Parma for Christ's sake.

Yeah, it really should be replaced with "are".

So true.. Or, maybe it's just bling with a meaning. Much like a tattoo in Japanese that says "Don't forget where you came from". Or a tattoo of Mao on one arm and a dollar bill on the other.

Oh, and the best one is of course this one:

So true.

Also true that he's one of many. For example:
