This guy is a rock star in Korea. Whoever gets him will fill the stands with Korean fans.

Ahn Jung-Hwan, the South Korean star whose superlative World Cup performance in 2002 captured attention around the world, is apparently looking at a move to Major League Soccer.

According to reports out of South Korea, the teams that are interested in his services are the Colorado Rapids, Chivas USA, the New England Revolution and Red Bull New York.

If he comes, hopefully he ends up in the West. He'll have less impact on us and will help out a weaker conference.

This story is fiction. Goal.com reported about a month-and-a-half ago that he was interested in moving to the MLS, according to his agent. There was zero interest.

Then, six weeks later, Goal.com runs a followup saying he hasn't accepted a new deal from Busan of the K-League yet because there's a better offer waiting in the wings from the U.S.

Stinks -- reeks, even -- of his agent desparately pushing him to MLS at his client's demand, with zero takers. Which, given his skill level and level of play in recent years, there will continue to be, unless he's willing to play for about $150,000 a year. Such is the salary difference between the K-League and MLS.

I think that you may be right. I remember reading stories a few weeks ago that would imply his agent was using the MLS as a way of driving some urgency into existing contract negotiations.

And then if you read the most recent goal. com piece, it actually notes that he's still expecting to see an improved offer from Busan. So it doesn't seem too realistic.

Surprised Sports Illustrated jumped on it. Maybe they've been told to up their soccer content.

Aside from scoring 1 important goal in the world cup ... ahn jung-hwan has nothing in his career to suggest he'd even be any sort of an impact player in this league.

Even Park Ji-Sung is not worth a DP slot and he plays for Man U.

Hong Myung-Bo was probably the most recent Korean footy legend. Everyone else after him has been crap -- Ahn's just posturing.

He doesnt score often, but he does score clutch goals.

Likes to play 10 position, just behind a striker. He can create a bit and has good awareness and positioning.

Although never been a prolific scorer, his other attributes seemed to have given him attention of european clubs, incl a trial with Blackburn.

At 32 though, he is starting to decline. Not worth a DP of course.

Park Ji Sung is crap?
You might also want to look up Hwang Sun-Hong. Approx 1 goal every 2 gams for SKMNT
