Sutton welcomes De Rosario
Reds goalkeeper delighted by De Ro's arrival
Toronto FC Media Relations

Toronto FC goalkeeper Greg Sutton believes the arrival of fellow Canadian international Dwayne De Rosario is a key moment in the club's history. De Rosario was signed by the Reds on Friday in exchange for Julius James and allocation money. Sutton has played alongside De Rosario for Canada and expects him to have a big impact. "It's exciting for the club," said Sutton. "Dwayne's a talented player with an attacking presence. He's creative and isn't afraid to try things which is something that our line up is looking for. He will add something different to our attacking style and it's great for the team to be able to start expressing itself in an attacking way."

As De Rosario goes, a thank-you is due
Star mid gave Dynamo fans great memories
By GLENN DAVIS For the Chronicle

The investment by the fan for the sports hero is a big one.
Passionate fans who live and breathe their team and their heroes feel a close connection.
Just when you thought a specific player was “ours,” he is gone and the fan is left like a jilted lover. The reality is that players come and go for a variety of reasons and are only “borrowed” by franchises.
Last Friday, the announcement of Dynamo star Dwayne DeRosario being traded to Toronto FC was a jaw-dropper and hit many like a body blow. Fans were caught offguard and now life without DeRosario has officially begun in Houston. ...

First big MLS deal of offseason
[MLS] A month after its bid for its third straight MLS title ended, Houston Dynamo dealt star Dwayne De Rosario to Toronto FC as part of its effort to rebuild its attack. De Rosario, who grew up in the Toronto suburb of Scarborough, returned home in a trade that sent Trinidad & Tobago defender Julius James and allocation money reported to be between $125,000 and $150,000 to the Dynamo.
D-Ro won two MLS titles with San Jose and two with Houston in his eight-year MLS career. He earned $325,000 in 2008 and has two years remaining on his contract.

On the surface, allocation money and the addition of an athletic defender in Julius James from Toronto FC doesn’t seem to be enough for this MLS superstar.

ya know what's interesting about the whole DeRo saga in Houston is that he was actually underpaid for awhile there, making less than 200K for some time. It was only I believe last year that they rewarded him with what he was worth. And now they move him cuz he's too expensive. the whole "he's in decline over the past two years" thing doesn't take into account that they upgraded his pay so recently. they put themselves in this situation to have to move him to be able to make other moves.

2 quick questions after the trade:

How much Cap money does TFC still have and how much Allocation money left? Are does numbers available to the public?

the general belief is TFC has just under a million in allocation.

but the details of that, and the actual cap number, are not really known for sure. people say the cap is 2.2mil but who knows. the MLS Players union site has all the salaries listed.. but we don't know how much of each salary counts against the cap due to allocations being used to knock down salaries.

Can you imagine if Toronto and Houston met in the MLS Cup?
Now that would make for a good atmosphere!
