Copa Sudamericana champions Internacional have revealed they have turned down an offer for midfielder Andres D'Alessandro from Major League Soccer side the Los Angeles Galaxy.

The 27-year-old Argentina international was a leading figure when the Porte Alegre side became the first Brazilian club to win the continental title earlier this month.

Internacional vice-president confirmed the Galaxy made enquiries about D'Alessandro in November but their interest was quickly nipped in the bud.
"The offer came from the Los Angeles Galaxy of the United States. I didn't even want to listen to the details," Carvalho commented.

"The offer was for more money than we paid for D'Alessandro, who arrived here for five million euros, but we want to keep the Argentinian."

Meanwhile Roma are ready to let defender Cicinho go as they step up their pursuit of Internacional striker Nilmar.

The Giallorossi have set their sights on a striker and could use the Brazilian defender as a bargaining chip, as they will look to add more firepower to their ranks during the transfer window.

The bid was supposedly around $10M

Now that's something you don't see everyday from MLS.

A team going after a sub 30 player with plenty of skill.

Too bad about D'Alessandro. Could have been a world star. Still a top player in South America though.

That's probably because any money going for for transfer fees counts against your cap, and the only reason that this would be even possible would be a judicious application of the Galaxy Rule(tm).

You don't get sub-30 players with plenty of skill from good teams on frees.

Transfer $$ counts vs yer cap?? Wow.. I need to read more about the CBA for MLS, that is absolutly retarded.

How the heck does Galaxy afford 10million bucks on the salary cap? Unless Galaxy had 10 million in allocation?

It all makes perfect sense when you don't think about it.

Donovan was grandfathered. MLS would probably just grandfather the grandfathered spot. I'm sure somewhere in the fineprint MLS could work that rule in.

4.1.1.1 subsection 20A "LA Galaxy withhold the right to grandfather any vacant grandfather spot" *or whatever else they ask to do.
