Toronto FC lands De Rosario
LARRY MILLSON
TORONTO — Toronto FC must begin producing results on the field if they are to continue being a smash box-office success — and they took a big step in that direction yesterday by bringing home Major League Soccer all-star midfielder Dwayne De Rosario.
TFC obtained the 30-year-old Toronto native yesterday in a deal with the Houston Dynamo for defender Julius James, a first-round draft pick this last January, and allocation money of between $125,000 and $150,000 (U.S.).

Deal for De Rosario the perfect reward for TFC fans' love
Cathal Kelly (http://www.thestar.com/opinion/columnists/94561)
After three years of one-sided romance, the management of Toronto FC has finally shown the team's supporters some real love. The addition of Dwayne De Rosario – local boy, outsized talent – is the transaction equivalent of a big, sloppy kiss.
The native of Scarborough was welcomed home yesterday afternoon, gift-wrapped from Houston. He was swapped for defender Julius James and allocation money, which FC has spent the last two seasons stockpiling like Scrooge.

Toronto FC snags hometown boy De Rosario
Toronto FC made a big splash in the transfer market on Friday, acquiring hometown boy Dwayne DeRosario from the Houston Dynamo for young defender Julius James and allocation money.
De Rosario is a three-time MLS all-star and four-time MLS Cup winner with Houston and the San Jose Earthquakes. The flashy midfielder from the Scarborough section of Toronto was named MVP of the league championship game after scoring the winning goal in both 2001 with San Jose and 2007 with Houston.
De Rosario, 30, has 51 goals and 42 assists in eight MLS seasons. He won the MLS goal of the year award in 2004 and 2005.

TFC jumps at chance to bring in De Rosario
By DEAN MCNULTY (dean.mcnulty@sunmedia.ca), SUN MEDIA
Toronto FC scored the biggest goal of its Major League Soccer franchise history yesterday, acquiring Canadian international midfield/forward Dwayne De Rosario from the Houston Dynamo.
In return for the three-time MLS all-star, TFC's director of soccer Mo Johnston traded away 2008 first-round draft pick Julius James and allocation money.
Johnston and executives of the parent Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Ltd. have long promised frenzied fans that the team would dip into its cash reserves to bring top-notch players to the Reds next season.
And after two seasons of missing the playoffs, the acquisition of De Rosario is seen as move to not only make the post- season in 2009, but to advance beyond the first round.

Stocking stuffer
Ryan Johnston
Toronto FC Director of Soccer Mo Johnston showed MLSE newbie Brian Burke how to satisfy its fans during the holiday season.
Trader Mo struck again on Friday (http://www.sportsnet.ca/soccer/2008/12/12/toronto_fc_derosario/) while the Maple Leafs sat cozy in Day 3 of Burke's self-imposed holiday moratorium on personnel moves. (http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/blogs/2008/12/09/spector_burke_headlines/) It's a noble practice by Burke to hand out peace of mind as jobs are slashed everywhere else, but try to convince anyone that new TFC player and local boy Dwayne De Rosario is upset over a new area code in December.
Now excuse the hyperbolzing (as I am struggling to be objective here) but the move by Johnston to bring DeRo to BMO is a story fit for the season.

Ricketts made for T.O.
Gerry Dobson
When Rohan Ricketts shows up at Nathan Phillips Square on a cold damp December day it is confirmed that this dude is different from most others. Not that I already didn't know it.
Following him around throughout the 2008 season one would quickly came to the conclusion that the Toronto attacker marches to the tune of his own drummer. That's not a knock. It's a compliment. He's refreshing. And he was certainly refreshed on this occasion as he showed up in nothing but a light jacket for an outdoor meeting on a day when the temperature was well below freezing. And here I am bundled from head to toe. He was the tough guy. I was the wimp.
