Looks like the exerp was written by a 4 year old...

original mls investor will announce sale of franchise by first of year. sale in wake of investor learning urban sss project will not move forward. low attendance also cited. new owner currently manages stadium & arena with another long-term mls investor. said stadium will host relocated franchise. as conditions of sale, current owner keeps interest in sum & new owner drops pursuit of franchise in new pro grid league. current owner may also purchase minor stake in nhl team new owner hopes to land & house in planned arena project. despite relocation, mls franchise will maintain current name in entirety.

sorry for mystery format, but i am close to a party involved & must maintain anonymity.

Talked to a friend in Boston the other day and he figures the team will get a SSS closer to Downtown Boston, will will help attract more supporters.
These having teams away from city centers must stop.

so are they saying that, along with two new expansion teams, their will be another new team in the league by way of relocation?

and what is with the Hartford connection?

Would it not make sense to move a team to a city that is applying for an expansion team?

Based on all the info provided, its the only franchise that lines up.

If they're in Hartford they're still technically part of "New England"

Hartford would keep the team in New England...but cant see the team going there. It has to be downtown Boston. Boston is a fantastic sports town ( im biased) and they should ave a MLS team close to the city center. This talk of moving the Revs might be to get local support for a SSS in the area...

It's a good idea right now for MLS to be in cities with few other pro teams.

Or, to put some pressure ongetting a downtown SSS in Boston. Anything to get out of where they are now.

The exit of Robert Kraft (if this is true), could open up the league to spending a bit more. Kraft is one of the owners who has advocated frugality quite strongly.

does Boston College or Harvard have a downtown stadium?
i've got no idea...but you'd think that would work...

Well, BC has 44,000 Alumni Stadium but I don't think Saturday games could be played. Don't even ask about the soccer facilities.
http://bceagles.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/alumni-stadium.html

BU has Nickerson Field (10,000) for soccer. BU has no football program.

Then there is Harvard Stadium:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/14/Harvard_Stadium%2C_Dudesleeper.jpg

Probably the best option at 30,000 cap. and wide enough for soccer.

MIT....well they can calculate the dimensions needed to hold a soccer match and give the percentage of risk ratio given the fact that team has relocated from a NFL stadium.:D

^no chance Harvard would let a professional sports team use their stadium (this has come up many times in the past)

Nickerson is a possibility though

I think the Revs played some games there in the 90s

The only place I could see the Revs playing is at UConn's Rentschler Field (40,000) in East Hartford

It actually has hosted a few US National soccer matches as well as US rugby matches.

Yeah, but it's only 10,000 capacity...total I think, but I can't see why the MLS would complain about the Revs playing in a 10,000 seater when both San Jose and KC are playing in 10,000 seaters right now:

San Jose - Buck Shaw

Hmmm, I don't see how moving out of 1 football stadium and into another would be good, especially moving to a smaller city.

I'm not saying it is but that would be the BEST place in Hartford for the Revs to play if they did move.
As for the smaller city...Foxboro, Mass, home to Gillette Stadium, is a town of about 16,000 and 22 miles south of Boston.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foxborough,_Massachusetts
While Hartford has 120,000 just in metro pop and over a million in the GHA:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hartford

It would be a win for soccer fans of Hartford and Connecticut but a HUGE loss for Boston.

Especially one that's occupied on saturdays from August to the end of the year.

Not sure if Hartford is a good idea. It's an impoverished city -- it has the second highest unemployment rate in the US (1/3 below poverty line), with an average household income of $24,000 (if Wiki is trusted http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hartford,_Connecticut)

Moving the team there would be a stupid idea.

wont happen...Boston has to be the choice or else the team might as well move elsewhere altogether...no offence to those in Hartford.

The rest of Conneticuit might be good, though, the population around Hartford is pretty affluent. But this is probably just to put pressure on Boston.

Seeing that info I would have to agree that Hartford would be a poor choice. I hope everyone is right and that this is just a ploy to get a SSS in Boston at least on the drawing board.

Don't get me wrong--I'd be happier with a move to Hartford. It would mean a 50 minute vs 1.5 hour drive to watch some footy.

Still, it's a move to another expansive football stadium, and probably won't be in the best interest of the club.

If they do change something, my vote is for their ridiculous logo. It's one of the things keeping me from making them my #2 team (that, and no SSS). Still, I'm trying to turn people in Western Mass into TFC fans, and MLS fans in general.

Despite the 40,000 capacity, Rentschler was built with soccer and rugby in mind and is built plenty wide enough for a full sized pitch as you can see here:

It's also got grass
