Short sleeve one looks pretty good. The long sleeve one... I don't know.

I'm glad they got rid of the squiggly lines.

Squiggles gone = great!
Collar on red shirt = pretty good
New collar design on grey = good
Grey shoulders on red top = bad
Breaking up grey strip on arms of red top = really bad
Grey shoulders on grey top = pretty cool (much better than the previous grey kit)
Canadian flag on shoulders = not bad... not totally necessary, but fine
"All for One" on collar = nice idea... TFC crest font would have been better though.
Size of BMO logo = not so good... crowds the TFC crest... shrink that sponsor!

My score:

Red Jersey = 6.5/10 - a step sideways from the last one... replaced one flawed design with another.

Grey Jersey = 7.5/10 - a nice step up from the last one... Shockingly, it looks better than the red now!

I won't be buying the red one this year... I will stick with the one I have.
But this may be the year I pick up a grey top.... but $119.99?????
That's robbery!

oh... and I really like the black shorts with the grey top!

I agree with everything you just said. Don't under estimate the fine red pipe collar on the grey though.
Its a small detail but it seems to pop againest the grey really nicely.

I got the feeling the players looked to be not overly immpressed with the 'new' kit.
Only the addition of the Canadian flag crest and embroidery seemed to catch their eye.

I think the grey looks better too -- although, I actually liked the old grey one better as well.

While the breaking up of the striping on the longsleeve looks bad, it's done for practical reasons -- so that the league or competition crest doesn't have to be sewn over the Adidas stripes (Look at the current Chelsea and Liverpool kits you'll see it's the same now).

The reason ours looks so bad with it is because of the large onyx band of colour beneath the stripes. Hideous.

The stripes going down the armpit make it look like CFL jersey, all they need is shoulder pads. im pretty sure in the pic i saw rohan ricketts was pointing at the canadian flag and laughing his ass off. I voted for overkill, but when i see them on the field i will try to focus on the skill displayed on the field rather than complete trash of jerseys.

I just thought that they were really pushing the marketing around the colour RED. So it doesn't make much sense to me for them to move away from that and have really crappy dark grey detailing on the home shirt.

I've got to be honest - I haven't seen much positive support thus far, but I REALLY like these jerseys.

The Canadian everything is spectacular. As if we don't already get enough shit from every other team in the league about being the only Canadian team. Now we can wear it with pride! I know I will.

The design is not GROUNDBREAKING, but I've got to be honest, everyone's been on about this for weeks and it's like you're all expecting the kit to end all kits. In that case, I think you overextended yourselves.

I expected a new kit. I got it. I'm satisfied. I'll buy not one, but both.

I actually like the grey jersey now - and that's a huge improvement. For the red, I'm about the same. But I'll still buy it.

Because I love this fucking team.

my reaction to the jersey like some others is 'meh'.

Definitely think the grey has improved dramatically. Just not feeling the red long sleeve.

I like the idea of the canadian flag on the sleeve but it seems to be a little "over-sized" same with the MLS patch.

The TFC patch is not felt and is sewen on. I hate how big the size of the BMO logo is...

oh & btw the majority of the training gear is dark grey which is better the last years

So in the end, undecided on the jersey itself. i guess i have to wait two years for the next kit!

I was there tonight and Believe it or not the jersey is of much higher quality. I love the grey one way more than the old one and the leaf underneath is actually pressed into the jersey. In person, it is a better jersey than the ones we currently have. Great job. The only thing I would have done different is a different colored collar, black or dark grey.

That "all for one" font is the same as they have on their ads.

Sutton was wearing an away jersey because they don't have a GK jersey lined up. This year, he wore training tops all season, just like most of the ones last year.

The collars don't pop too well, although KK was trying to pull it off all night... unsuccessfully. :)

I've consistently hated Adidas kits. Enough with the three stripes down the sleeves; you've already got your logo clearly visible.

The red - I'm not so sure. It may grow on me. The grey suffers a bit from a little too Buck Rogers-like. But the black pants fo the away kit are a nice touch.

Oh when the greys!

...to me grey one looks like a GK jersey...hmmm, maybe because Sutton's wearing it...or maybe it's color grey which is a popular choice for a GK jerseys...and with these dark grey/black shorts make perfect GK kit...:-((((

Or this could be the Keeper's jersey. I noticed that a lot of keeper's shirts this year had that two stripe design.

And I gotta say -- I like that they're using all the colours from our crest -- Red, light grey and dark grey/onyx. It's all good.

I've been trying to think of any successful teams that wear grey but i can't. Maybe this is the reason.....

Although my mind was put at ease after reading this......"Gail knew how important peripheral vision is to a skilled footballer". Not sure we have any such players, we'll be fine wearing this for a few years.

They should have used the colours from the flag of Toronto is they were that stuck for a colour scheme.

Does anyone else think..'Formula 1' when you look at the kits for awhile?
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b6/Damon_Hill_juillet_1995.jpg

All in all am I disapointed by the kits? Not really. They are new and so they need time to sink in.
Will I buy these kits? Yes, they are my club and I support them, but it really comes down to what goes on the pitch that matters. They could wear Liverpool or Man U hand-me-downs for all I care as long as they win and put hardware in the coffers.
They MAY have the ugliest kits in the league but they will look pretty nice if it were lifting a cup.

M'eh.

The new kits aren't terrible, but I doubt I'll buy one. The '07 shirt I have now will probably last me for a few more years. I think they were on to something with the ghost image of the maple leaf on the front and flag on the sleeve, but other than that, there's a lot of unnecessary flash.

onemanbarmyarmy

For once there was some valid feedback on this site. The jerseys are ok but that's why the club should try and get our opinion on these things.

-The All for One should be in a different font, smaller and maybe placed on the inside of the collar or inside of the jersey on the bottom hem.
-Loose the grey "Shoulder Pads" on the red jersey
-Minimalize the look a-la this pic:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k139/brushstroke-man/TFCjerseyfake-1.jpg
-Dark grey collar simillar to the red jersey on the grey. Maybe; maybe not.
-Shrink the flag on the arm and the sponsor on the front.

I think these are all good suggestions. This is just the nascar-ey american style of sports kit. Hopefully the team will realize that it is much more poignant being the solid red team in a league of Tron-style, future jersey clad teams. It is kind of like they threw all of their ideas on to these jerseys and didn't have enough time to edit them. Then they tried to cash in on x-mas because they missed the boat the last couple years. That said I'll buy a grey one for sure (I don't have one yet and was hoping for a white away) and probably a red in some drunken fit of poor decision making during a 3-0 home victory next season when I also get CUNNINGAM mistakenly put on the back.

Stugatzo

Agree with those who say the grey looks better than the red and I hate the collar.
But who am I kidding?? I'm gonna grab one of each because I don't want the Jonses (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keeping_up_with_the_Joneses) out jersey-ing me.
My only quandary is name and number. Have Robbo already...do I go with Ricketts or wait until we make a few moves?? Ohhhhhhh...decisions decisions...

Flats and Barmy have both got the right idea. What we should be going for is a minimalist approach to the kits. Something like this looks pretty good and really defines us well:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k139/brushstroke-man/TFCjerseyfake-1.jpg

One thing I do like is the inclusion of the Canadian flag on the sleeve. Just looks classy, in my opinion. Other than that, I say keep everything nice and simple. While the rest of the league is sporting ultra bright glow-in-the-dark jerseys with reversible Velcro patches and all that other crap, we'd be the stylish ones wearing a simple red and white top and matching shorts.

BTW: No new keeper top?

Regarding the BMO logo being close to the TFC logo, take another look at the old jerseys, I took a look at mine today and it looks like the exact same placement ... It may just be that it looks weird in pictures, but I may be wrong

Big fan of simple and this is silly. Two teenage kids also agree. Oh, well, more golf money for me. Or maybe a trip to TOFFS to pick up something classic and classy.

Why do adidas centre their logo the chest? It's shifted on the practice jersey. The front would look more balanced with adidas and TFC logos placed evenly to each side and let the sponsor logo have a cleaner display.

Shocked to see the Canadian flag win a sleeve placement over what I assumed was the front-runnner for that location - $. Neither needed.

You're going to have to work very hard for anything more than my ticket money, MLSE. Didn't buy overpriced beer last season, trucked in my own sarnies and hooch. Coping nicely with gear bought in first season.

i tend to agree, not so much a fan of the home kit, especially with the all for one on the back of the collar, but the away is a big improvement and looks good with black shorts instead of those terrible red/grey combos from last/this year

Awful. Truly, truly awful. Who designed these things, Helen Keller? There are some pretty good graphic designers who use this site, and I imagine they're all popping advil like they were M&Ms after seeing these monstrosities.

The only reason the grey looks better is that all the lamentable busy-ness distracts from the ....grey.

Unfortunately I think they're a disappointment. Why on earth do they have to have those grey drippy shoulder things? It looks like someone got grey paint and spilt on them from above and made the whole shirt busy. Simple is always best yet whomever designed these has obviously lost the plot.

Someone also pointed out that Chelsea and Liverpool have the same half-stripey thing for long sleeves. They don't. They put the PL logo or the CL logo right over top, which is what TFC should have done.

I know we need a commercial sponsor on the front of the jersey, but ask yourself this:

If you were running Liverpool, would you be putting a Bank of Manchester logo - MancBank? - on the front of your shirt? That's what this one feels like to me.

Go on, sell it to people who don't care. I'm a Toronto boy, born and raised. This didn't work for me before and this new candied-up version is no better.

I don't mind the short sleeves, I think the long sleeves look a little shitty. And the flag would be fine if it were the size of a scout/cub patch, but that's like something you sew onto a backpack when you go to Europe. And finally I agree with alot of posts on here that the sponsor logo is a little high, if they moved it down and inch or two it would be alright, and maybe a little smaller like on that simplified jersey pic that's a few pages back.

All in all, sidestep, not better, not really worse. But I will always see the original jersey as THE jersey, flawed and all.

Overall I have to say im fairly pleased with the changes. The kits are nothing groundbreaking, but I certainly dont think they have gotten worse. The red looks fine, and to be honest I probably prefer the grey shoulders and all that to the white and grey squiggles on the old top.

The grey is a huge improvement if only for one reason. They ditched the red shorts and made them black. The red shorts/grey top combo from the last two season was probably the ugliest combination in all of world football.

I could very well see myself buying both of those tops. Probably not for a couple months or until I can find them for a sane price, but theyre both great IMO.

Embroidered crest is nice, the arm patches look great, and the maple leaf watermark thing looks pretty cool.

The shoulder stripes should extend to all the way to the end of the sleeves. There's no need for the "paint drip" melting off the shoulders and going into the arm pits. I also don't like the "horns" at the ends of the short sleeves. All of these elements say "cheesy".

A less is more approach would be better. I would prefer a "Detroit Red Wings" minimalist approach over this "Roller Derby" approach.

I do like the onyx shorts with the grey shirts.

CentreSports.

And they're not violating the rules.

Oh, I should have elaborated more there - I said that I was under the impression the only people selling were CentreSports. The retailer stated that he was assured by Adidas 'No jerseys will be sold until March 2009'... He was pretty miffed and adamant I was wrong... There are few retailers in my area who support football so my selection is limited.

$119 I suspect?

sulfur
12-23-2008, 07:48 AM
$119 down there.

And CentreSports is separate from the others, since it's the team selling them directly at that point (whether via the kit party or via their shop shelves). When it comes to Adidas (and Nike), the team gets to do all sorts of things (like get the exclusivity for a while) that no other retailer gets.

It may irritate the other retailers, but that's the way this whole sports attire business works.

But yes, the only place you can get those jerseys right now is from CentreSports, and that's only until their supply runs out.

Luckily, the youth replica is decent. I'm thinking now that I'm going to buy a replica (sans Canadian flag patch, ridiculous embossed maple leaf) when they come out in March or whatever and take it to a tailor to have the collar removed.

TFC are pricing themselves out. If they charged $80 for the shirt, I'm sure a lot more people will buy them. $120 is a lot, and they aren't that great to justify such an expense. We aren't rich ... toss us a bone MLSE!

I'm going to the Raptors game Friday night - I hope to see the new home jersey for the first time that night at the ACC store.

I hope this ends up on the right arm in place of the MLS badge instead.

I think we're doing well enough now that we can have a stock of jerseys set aside for the NCC, the U.S. have ones just for the U.S. Open cup etc.

I hope.
good luck I do not think the mls will never let any of there team remove that patch.

In the NCC, TFC is not an MLS team. So... you never know.

looks like they had the MLS badge on last year. can't see why it would be any different this year.
