A treble for TFC would be MLS Cup, Supporter's Shield, and CONCACAF Champions League title (as this would imply winning the Canadian Championship/Voyageurs Cup)

I guess our Treble would automatically be a Quadruple. We would have won the Supporter's Shield, The MLS Cup, The Champions League and by extension the Voyageurs Cup. Perhaps in the future, more than one Canadian team will be able to qualify for the Champions League and then the Quadruple will be a true Quadruple and not implied.

For the Treble though, will a team have to win the 2008 MLS Cup and Supporters Shield and then win the 2008-2009 Champions League? So, they wouldn't know they won the Treble until well into the next season?

It does have another name. The Canada cup. It's a default because of where it's contested. It's called the V cup to honour a tournament put on for years (you know, before you followed Canadian Soccer?)

Called the Voyageurs Cup in honour of the Voyageurs(Canadian supporters group) being the driving force behind the tournament in the past.

Treble = Triple in the UK.

It's not a football term, it's just an English way of saying triple.

Most commentators in the UK will use the term treble to describe a 3 trophy season for a club. Just like winning two trophies would be called a double.

On tv ads in the UK they will say "Call treble eight 486 290" etc. for a phone number.

It kinda cracks me up to hear people refer to a TFC treble. Same as when people say Deb You instead of Day byou (debut)

I don't know about that. There's quite a lengthy wikipedia article on The Treble. It's an interesting read:

The first line specifically calls it a Football term.

The treble is domestic league, domestic cup and continental trophy (think Man U's in '99).

Because of the overlapping schedule of MLS and CCL, for us, the next available one would be:

2009-10 CONCACAF Champions League (April)
2010 Voyageurs Cup (July)
2010 MLS Cup (November)
Optional quadruple: 2010 World Club Cup (December)

Imagine culminating the perfect calendar year with a World Club Cup win in December?

That would also effectively mean two straight Voyageurs Cups.

We could win a treble with any three tournaments, including Supporters' Shield and Superliga (equivalent of the UEFA Cup now that teams can't be in both CCL and Superliga).

In that same light, the double would be MLS Cup and Voyageurs Cup.

A double would be any two tournaments, arguably including the Trillum Cup and the Pan-Pacific Championship.

Bringing this back now that Montreal could win a double. I looked at the history of US/Canada's treble (http://majorliguesoccer.com/2013/08/25/can-montreal-do-the-double/) here - nobody from Canada or the US has won it yet; the US' few Champions' Cup wins never coincided with an MLS Cup (or even SS) win. If Montreal were to somehow win this edition of the CCL, they could go for a treble next year with the Voyageurs Cup/MLS Cup in 2014.

the traditional way of looking at it would be:

- domestic (voyagers cup)
- national (MLS cup or supporters shield)
- international (champions league)

i enjoy the TFC version, it's far more attainable:

- disney open
- trillium cup
- a playoff berth

TFC (Also VWFC and IMFC) can't qualify for the CCL through the league standings, those spots are awarded by the USSF and only go to US teams.

Someone make sure this man is seated, before breaking the big news.

** * **

Sadly, the Trillium Cup will soon be a defunct contest, as we bid farewell to our provincial/state-flower brethren (interestingly enough, our area codes are the same, when reversed; 416 & 614).

We should win the last instalment, and then, as a show of camaraderie, let the Crew fans keep it (because, who wants that clunky thing knocking around, anyway?).

Really hope the league doesn't try to replace this, by adding a trophy for us and Montréal to compete for. >.>

I’ve never seen myself quoted from so long ago. You think I was good with predictions then? Imagine how good I am now as a much older and wiser man!

In 9 years the Stanley Cup will be won by Hamilton, the World Series by Manchester, and MLS Cup by Detroit.
Yup, there’s gonna be a lot of expansion in the coming years.
