Hume readmitted to hospital
The Canadian Press

BARNSLEY, England — Canadian striker Iain Hume has been hospitalized again, two weeks after he fractured his skull in a game against Sheffield United.
The 25-year-old Barnsley forward needed emergency surgery after the Nov. 8 game in which he was elbowed in the head by Sheffield United defender Chris Morgan as they jumped for the ball.
Although Hume finished the game, which Barnsley lost 2-1, he later complained of pain and, when internal bleeding was diagnosed, he was taken to the hospital...

Moring D! I can't believe Morgan didn't get any repremand for that elbow. It was so intentional and he lead into it. What a joke! I hope Hume gets better. Anyone else seeing Hume destroying Morgan next time they face Sheffield?

Interesting note in an article about the Crew and sigi maybe leaving:

Hunt and the Crew will face another crucial decision regarding Schelotto, whose salary has been paid in part by allocation money the Crew no longer has.
MLS has a one-year option left on the contract of the 35-year-old Argentine, who is due a salary of about $600,000, Schelotto said.
That's $200,000 more than the league maximum, which would make Schelotto a designated player and require team ownership to pay him that amount out of its own pocket.
Schelotto said that is something Hunt Sports Group does not want to do, although he said he has been encouraged by MLS officials who said they are willing to get creative in order to keep him in Columbus.

I think Schelotto would look great in red!

From that last link:

Darren Huckerby has followed David Beckham's example by returning to Europe for the winter after a season in Major League Soccer.
But while England star Beckham is rubbing shoulders with some of the best players in the world during a loan spell at AC Milan, journeyman striker Huckerby

Obviously nobody cares because it's not Beck's, just funny that it will fly under the radar and he'll probably recieve no criticism unlike when Beckham and to a lesser extent Blanco made the same decision.

where have you been man. that's old news.

He wasn't protected because he could just walk away if he wanted to.
Seattle would be insane to take someone who would just fly back
to England if he wasn't happy with his club. I think it's a risk,
but a smart move overall. Just like leaving Sutton open.
They aren't taking a 3rd GK in the expansion.

I do expect to lose Velez.

Read the protected thread. He's not going to get picked, I promise you that. There are much better players available (see Eddie Gaven) for similar or cheaper prices who aren't International. Besides, they already have a fairly stacked midfield and have to watch their cap space. The only way I see them picking Ricketts is if they have something set up to use him as trade bait.

Hmm...Huckerby with a non League side. I am sure he'll get first team action. I wonder if this might be a bit of a trend for players coming from Europe in their first seasons in MLS. I've said before that Robbo was going to do the same thing last year until he banged up his knee playing for Wales.

Yallop took Poz from us cuz he knew him.
I hope Seattle takes Velez cuz they know him from his time in Seattle.
He's still relatively young, he played 23 games... he's cheap and counts as an American.
I know Seattle has scouts, but they don't watch every single game the way we do. Our impression of Velez comes from intense observation. What if Seattle happened to scout the games where he scored? Or where he played well or at least looked comfortable out there (and he did have those games).

Get well Iain.

I can't say I'm looking forward to losing players today but I'll be watching the draft today.

MLS expansion fee won't scare away Whitecaps

Vancouver group undaunted by Montreal's pullout

Ian Walker, Vancouver Sun

Published: Tuesday, November 25, 2008
Vancouver Whitecaps president Bob Lenarduzzi isn't into reading into things.
So despite a confusing turn of events this weekend, the longtime soccer executive said Monday he remains confident in Major League Soccer's desire for additional Canadian franchises. More specifically, one in Vancouver.
On Friday, MLS commissioner Don Garber announced in his annual state-of-the-league address that the Montreal Impact had withdrawn its bid because of financial concerns arising from the $40 million expansion fee.

Two days later, Garber amended his comments by saying the league actually had not retained the bid.
While it could be a simple matter of semantics, more concerning for Vancouver soccer fans should be Garber's comments that more Canadian franchises "take away from growing our footprint and our television ratings in the United States."
