From the Voyageurs Board (Jeffery S.)

Well just saw a new comment to the effect that "Carlos Rivas has emmigrated to Canadian football", in the comment on the player Marcelo Muņoz, article from early October, don't confuse Carlos with coach Horacio Rivas, the first referred to in the paragraph:

http://www.futboliquique.cl/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=81

So if this reference is true, we have to wonder where the hell he went. What team in Canada would have signed him, and why would he have left when the team was a few games short of the season's end. He was there at least until mid-late September.

EDIT: Finally got it:

http://www.estrellaiquique.cl/prontus4_nots/antialone.html?page=http://www.estrellaiquique.cl/prontus4_nots/site/artic/20080927/pags/20080927005522.html

In late September it says he received an offer from a Canadian club in MLS and took it, and that his father lives in Toronto.

So did he sign with TFC or the Academy, or with another team, or was there any rumour to the effect?

That's his father. Don't get your hope's up, he is a good player but isn't MLS calibre that's for sure. Couldn't make the starting 11 on Iquique who are playing in 2nd division in Chile and were coached by Sulantay who was Chile's Under 20 coach at the World Cup here last year who just happens to be a close personal friend of his father. Sulantay resigned due to health concerns and Rivas left shortly after.

He's too old for the academy.

He was playing in Primera B in Chile, so second division (though it looks like his club got promoted)

I guess they might have signed him as a squad player. He's 24, according to this (http://www.canucks-abroad.com/content/carlos-rivas-jr-profile) so he's old enough to have made some sort of mark if he were good enough to do so.

I've made some enquiries to see if this story is true....

I've never seen Rivas Jr. play....his dad, on the other hand, was a legend.

I would encourage people not to underestimate the level of play of the lower divisions in South America. There are alot of excellent footballers playing in 2nd divisions in Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, etc...

However, the fact he's 24 years old and has not graduated to a 1st division team leads me to speculate that this guy is probably decent but not going to light the world on fire.

time will tell.

He's actually 23 (September 3 1985) according to his bio and this article so even better

Rivas said he received an offer from a club in Canada to participate in Major League Soccer in North America, so it will leave the club on Monday.

Shit, why don't we go get Jorge Maradona too and collect the whole set of famous relatives

Shit, why don't we go get Jorge Maradona too and collect the whole set of famous relatives

Diegito Maradonna (Diego's nephew) was on the Serbian White Eagles roster this year. He's actually a pretty decent footballer if he ever got in shape and put his heart into it 100%.

Does Johann Kryuff have any kids in the GTA?

It's part of a discussion of a supporter group of another team that operates from within our ranks.
