Reds in Canada U-20 squad
Four Toronto players heading to Switzerland

Toronto FC is well represented in the Canada Under-20 squad for an upcoming training camp in Switzerland. Nana Attakora-Gyan, Gabe Gala, Derek Gaudet and TFC Academy defender Daniel Tannous have all been included in the squad for games in Bern and Solothurn later this month.

Academy kids get Canada call
Reds players heading to Mexico

Four members of TFC Academy have been called into the Canada U-17 team to travel to Mexico this month. They will play a series of matches to help prepare for next year's FIFA U-17 World Cup Nigeria 2009.

TFC and the TSX
R.Johnston

I do not have a million dollars so acting responsibly during this economic downturn is not my area of expertise. In lieu, I called Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Tom Anselmi, the man behind a profit of $2.1 million in Toronto FC's inaugural season.

Anselmi was quite cordial in dealing with my economic shortcomings and within the first few minutes confirmed what I believe to be an absolute truth: Sports has the ability to transcend.

Tough calls
G.Dobson

Prepare for the unexpected when Major League Soccer makes its expansion announcement.

They've said it will be late this year or early next. I'm hearing it could be much sooner. Maybe even around the MLS Cup final on November 23rd at The Home Depot Centre.

Who gets the nod? Depends on who you talk to. I've travelled to Montreal, Ottawa and Vancouver over the past three weeks and in the course of those visits, I've chatted with the heavy hitters who know more than most.

Thanks for the news D.
Just a note that the hot link to the Dobson article is "a little exotic" and probably needs fixing.

Dobson is right about the Ottawa expansion bid.
Too much confusion about whether the city will support the bid and Melnyk's vision what with the Landsdowne park situation causing yet another round of navel gazing.

Anyone think that MLS might eventually look at a Canadian division if we can get 6 or more teams lined up?

I hope I'm wrong, but there's just as great a chance of MLS not awarding a team in Canada as there is of receiving at least one. How important is it for the league to gain additional American revenue streams, and does more Canadian teams affect it? And does the USSF have a say in where MLS puts teams? There are plenty of people in the U.S. soccer community who believe MLS shouldn't be putting teams in Canada and that we should be forming our own league.

And as for the SSG: :ack2:

Good point. The MLS was created in part to grow US Soccer and the National team. They will make sure that every US city is analized before adding another Canadian one. A division? I don't think so. If we have 6 teams we have 6 giants and half a league of our own.

"I wouldn't say the search is on, that would be a little bit strong" -Anselmi with regards to a DP.

This quote just pisses me off.

if philly is not able to get ready for 2010, i wouldnt be surprised if montreal takes that spot, there stadium is ready(aside from the offseason upgrades) and the team is there.

"Mo and I haven't even started talking about that (a contract extension) and I am sure we will before the end of the year. He has a full year left, a full mandate, 100 per cent support of the board and he has a job to do, which is to take the next step with the team and get better again. But we are real pleased with the job done by Mo."

I guess winning much in year 2 wasn't part of the job description.

They're set to break ground on the new stadium in Chester on Dec. 1. I believe Philadelphia will be ready for 2010.
