View Full Version : 2009 MLS Jersey's Revealed

Notice a few things here - the American flag on the sleeve and the much larger MLS logo. This is consistent with the news floating around (TFC will have a maple leaf instead of us flag...obviously).

The other thing to note is the ghost pattern star burst in the background. This is similar to the ghosted maple leaf on the TFC shirt and gives more credibility to the leaked photo's.

oh - and it's UuuuuuuuuuuGLY

I thought this was already released.

But yeh, the team logo is bigger (much like DC's and Chicago's is now).

Only TFC's official jersey will have the ghosted maple leaf... the replicas will not.

not bad. could do without the flag and that grey sleeve. but i like the watermark pattern.

i wonder if TFC is going to have a proper crest instead of the felt bullshit.

Ok. Blast me if you will. But I hate hate hate having a maple leaf on every jersey. First the Raptors, now TFC? It's a Toronto team, not a Canada team. Seriously, I won't rock a maple leaf'd jersey. For realsies.

The felt crest that is on the official jerseys is on it for a reason, it is far less abrasive to the skin. It does not scratch against the skin. Julius James gave me on of his game jerseys at the end of the season and it is much more comfortable to the skin where the logo is.

The reason that the jerseys in the sold in the store are stitched on is that the felt ones wear out much quicker and that would be an issue when you have people in most cases buying jerseys for over $100.00. When a players logo starts to wear out, fall off they can just simply replace it.

for realsies? damn, that's straight hood.

meh, i'm indifferent to the maple leaf thing, yeah sure it's not needed. i do like the design of having a watercolour type thing and fades.

I get the rationale, bro. It's that it's the lowest common denominator that is so offensive to me.

A lot of countries do this though (Or incorporate the flag into the crest somehow), or is just the sticking of the flag on the jersey that upsets yea?

Quite right. Mostly worn by stumpy Livvapewwl fans, hoping to gain the same sort of aerodynamic loft that propels Steven Gerrard so spectacularly as he arrives in the box looking to earn a penalty.

However, Gerrard wears the pro model, with rectractable booster wings.

As for the 'ghost pattern' on the Houston jersey? That's known in the trade as a Jacquard (Zhak-carrrd) pattern.

Not necessarily.
But it was a pretty typical Eastern bloc club name - see Dresden, Berlin, Moscow, Tbilisi, Kiev, Bucharest, etc.

No, I'm offended that it's a cheap piece of marketing to broaden appeal to the lowest common denominator. For me, I don't follow the team because they're a Canadian team, I follow them because they're a Toronto team. It would be like an Italian club putting the European Union flag on their jersey so they can sell merch in Poland. It's just so superficial.

I think that is where you are wrong... it;s a canadian team as well.. I mean i am of the people who thinks that the notional anthem is overplayed sometimes (specailly at the sporting events in Northamerica) but i think the maple leaf on the side is a good thing....

Umm...no....it would be like an Italian club (ie Inter Milan from...Milan) incorporating the Italian flag in their jersey/logo. Not far fetched.

Was at the store today where the new TFC jersey pic was taken (Bramelea City Centre) and the owner says its coming in Feb and it is 100% the jersey. Was that a RPB that took this picture? I can't remember from the original time it was posted on the forum a few months ago.

The first shipments were rumoured to be in at some point in November. The latest news now says that it will be December.

It also appears that this initial shipment will be going to TFC and they will be selling them through Centre Sports only. (regular outlets won't start getting the shirt in until Jan/Feb).

I also heard a rumour that they will be offering the initial shipment up to season ticket holders only - but I can't in any way confirm that.

Well the store owner (?) tells the story that the GoTFC member asked if he could take the picture and the Adidas rep said no. He snapped it anyway when the rep and owner werent looking.

The store owner said he was getting his shipment in Feb so Al-Mo's info could be right but this particular outlet is only getting them in Febuary.

One of the best kits ever from United. I just wish some asshole didn't put a cigerette burn in mine. it's small but I always see it when I wear it.

My two cents. I think the new jersey looks just as nice as the first but we'll have to wait and see it in RL.

The Seattle kit is all right but I really hate the Adidas designs of late with the messy abstract stripy stuff they have to put down the sides and back and everywhere else they say fit. And I guess this leaves Vancouver without an option for using green/blue if they wanted to. Van's classic colours have always been white and blue anyway.

As for Seattle's colours, it's not the nicest green, perhaps they should have went a bit darker and more subdued like Ireland's kit.
