Result of the Saturday October 18, 2008 MLS game between the reserves teams of Toronto FC and Chicago Fire played at BMO Field in Toronto at 6:00pm.

The game actually didn't start until 6:27pm because after the main game which ended at 5:42pm, the TFC players walked around the circumferance of the field to applaud all the fans. Nice touch just like last year! Security forces insured that there would be no pitch invasion this year. A few who tried were soon tackled by security.

The TFC lineup was:
.........18 Brian Edwards
29 Nana Attakora-Gyan...4 Marco Velez...3 Julius James...24 ????????
34 Daniel Nascimento...17 Joey Melo...15 Tyler Rosenlund...27 Gabe Gala
...........28 Johann Smith...7 Abdus Ibrahim

Subs: (that got into the game)
26 Derek Gaudet replaced injured Tyler Rosenlund in 1st half injury time.
8 Marcus Marshall replaced Johann Smith at halftime.
35 some curly brown haired guy replaced someone at 76 minutes. He may have been a CSL player like Nascimento as I think I've seen him before.

29 min...TFC Abdus Ibrahim GOAL...Fire Daniel Woolard made a bad header backpass from 35 yards to goalie Nick Noble and Ibrahim kept running forward to intercept it and rounded goalie at 15 yards and on right rolled sharp angle shot into left corner of open net.

38 min...Fire Dasan Robinson was knocked over in the TFC box by Julius James and the lady referee called a penalty kick.

39 min...Fire Andy Herron GOAL...Herron tapped penalty kick ball to right corner of net as goalie Brian Edwards dived to left side.

71 min...Fire Mike Banner GOAL...Fire Peter Lowry rushes on left and gets short pass to Banner and he shoots low 15 yarder over goalie into right corner of net.

78 min...TFC Julius James GOAL...TFC Joey Melo cornerkick from left has James chest ball in from 5 yards on left into short left side of net.

Final Score:.....Toronto FC Reserves.....2.....Chicago Fire Reserves....2....

Attendance started at 400 but dropped to about 70 at the end of the game plus about 30 on the west stands that were Fire regulars waiting for their bus and another section of suited guys. Many were friends and relatives of TFC. That's how I figured who to ask for the names of Daniel Nascimento and Marcus Marshall. The temperature was falling very fast and it was dark by the time the game ended.

I was wondering the same thing about Marcus Marshall. I’m also interested to see who the other two guest players were. One day on and still no report on the official TFC website.

Ibrahim is going to get better and better. I would like to see him coming off the bench more often next season. He was very grateful for the banner we made (King Tut)

I only stayed for part of the Reserve game, and while I was there, I only snapped a couple of photos.

You can tell that it was getting cold:

Yes it did look like this guy!

If it’s him (the Blackburn player) that’s a bit odd. Looks like Blackburn has reserve game coming up this week, I wonder if he’ll be in the lineup?

Did he make much of an impression on anyone who stayed to watch?

The Arabic font is supposed to "Ibrahim" ? Really? From my limited knowledge of the language, it really doesn't seem as if that is the case.

There’s local player from T&T by the name of Macrus Marshall. Maybe this is him:

Playing for City helps dream of pros

MIKE DAVIES

Saturday, July 14, 2007 - 00:00

Sports - Marcus Marshall's dream to play pro soccer started in Trinidad and Tobago and has brought him to Peterborough.

The 23-year-old Trinidad native scored a pair of goals to lift Peterborough Rayco City men's side to a 4-0 win over Homenetmen in OSL Central East Regional play at Eastgate Memorial Park last night. After playing college soccer in his homeland, Marshall came to Canada five years ago to pursue a pro soccer career. He was in his second year with the CPSL's Durham Storm when a detour was thrown into his path.

Financial troubles consumed the team and Marshall said he left when he stopped getting paid. He believed it was the end of his dream.

He currently lives in Toronto where he works as a soccer specialist rep for Nike. He says his soccer dream was reinvigorated when he met City head coach Matt Thomas at a soccer academy. Thomas convinced Marshall to try out in Peterborough and get himself back pursuing his dream.

"Coach Matt's style of coaching and what he's looking for inspired me," Marshall said, "because after the situation in Durham, I was really discouraged as far as professional soccer went. It really put me down a bit and put me off playing professionally or competitively again. I think coach Matt and coach Claude (Bolton) were really inspirational in reviving me."

Marshall expects to spend the entire season with City and hopes his play will attract some pro opportunities. He says Thomas and Bolton are trying to use connections in the soccer world to open some doors for him.

"I'm still young and I'm looking on to bigger and better things as far as soccer goes," he said.

Marshall says he doesn't mind the sacrifice of commuting to practices and games because he likes the City program.

"The setup in Peterborough, the management, the facilities, everything is so professional," he said. "It's really what I'm used to as a professional player."

Marshall, like the City team, had been in a bit of a slump in recent weeks so he was glad to break out with a couple of goals. It was City's first win in four league games, improving their record to three wins, four losses and one tie.

Marshall entered the game with three goals and although Homenetmen are tied for last with an 0-7 record, he said it boosted his confidence to score.

"I might have a good game and do everything coach Matt or coach Claude might want me to do but a striker's role, as I know it, is to score goals and create chances and I haven't done that in about four games now. It's definitely a big confidence booster for me," he said.

It was the first game he's felt 100 per cent after injuring his calf four games earlier.

"It's been kind of affecting my performances," he said. "I haven't been at full strength but I've been pushing it wanting to go out there and support my teammates in any way I can. I'm not making any excuses but that's definitely been a factor. The week off we got definitely helped. I was able to get some rest in and therapy."

Mark Van Beek and Matt Penello also scored for City. Keeper Navi Sidhu picked up his league leading third shutout.

City's next game is Friday in Toronto against Olympic Flame. Next home game is 8:30 p.m. July 27 against USC Karpaty

What makes you say that so definitively? I’m not asking to be a wise ass, I’m just curious.

The sad part about the Marcus Marshall thing (for those of us interested) is we may never know.

Last season they never posted the summary for our final reserve game. To this day I still don’t know who scored the goal in our 1-0 victory over LA! I’ve e-mailed MLS twice about it, thinking maybe it was some sort of technical glitch that the summary was not posted, but they’ve never wrote back.

Not to beat a dead horse with regards to this whole Marcus Marshall thing, but he’s not in the lineup from the TFC website:

Toronto FC Reserves (6-4-1) - Brian Edwards, Nana Attakora-Gyan, Marco Velez, Julius James, Marko Bedenikovic, Daniel Nascimento, Joey Melo, Tyler Rosenlund (Derek Gaudet 45), Gabe Gala, Johann Smith (Marco Terminiesei 76), Abdus Ibrahim. Subs Not Used: David Monsalve.

Yes number 35 from the reserve game on Saturday was Marco, he played with the Italia Shooters of the CSL this season. The Shooters are full of players who have had a TFC connection either main roster, reserves or pre-season.
