Mitchell staying on to run Canadian men's soccer squad
Coach committed to fulfilling contract through 2010 despite failed World Cup berth

Canadian men's soccer coach Dale Mitchell says he has no plans to step down in the wake of Canada's latest failure to reach the World Cup.
But Mitchell lost the services of another player — at least temporarily — after electing not to summon Dwayne De Rosario for Wednesday's game with Mexico following a discussion with the influential Houston Dynamo attacking midfielder.

It's time for the CSA to start figuring it out
Kent Gilchrist, The Province

Congratulations to the Whitecaps -- the players, new coach Teitur Thordarson, president Bob Lenarduzzi and, of course, owner Greg Kerfoot.
At least there's one team in the country giving soccer fans something to cheer about.
You couldn't find it on the Canadian Soccer Association website at 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, but the national team was eliminated from CONCACAF zone qualifying for the 2010 World Cup after losing 3-1 in Honduras on Sunday.

Canadian coach Mitchell won't resign
THE CANADIAN PRESS

Canadian soccer coach Dale Mitchell says he has no plans to step down in the wake of Canada's latest failure to reach the World Cup.

But Mitchell lost the services of another player -- at least temporarily -- after electing not to summon Dwayne De Rosario for Wednesday's game with Mexico following a discussion with the influential Houston Dynamo attacking midfielder.

"It was a good conversation and I prefer to leave it at that," Mitchell said Monday night from Edmonton.

Prettymuch yeah,he will stay until the end of his contract and that means 2010.Now if you think about, why CSA gave him contract until 2010 in the first place.
1 year contract with 3 years option makes more sense. Now CSA can't afford another payout ,and they will let him stay until 2010.
DM useless twat is not going to resign because he will lose some $$$,and Canadian soccer members(read KIDS)will pay the price.CSA wants to get $5 more from every membership,$5 more from every kid that is registered to play sport they love.
CSA makes me sick, and sunshine girl didn't help aether.

Doesnt this guy from the province realize that there is a world cup in 2014? And that qualification will begin in 2012?

The next time there'll be any real interest in what the CSA is doing will be 2014 when qualifying starts for the 2018 World Cup. Let's hope they try something different before then. hkgilchrist@yahoo.com

FOR TWO STRAIGHT WEEKS IN games officiated by two different referees, two hotly disputed penalty-kick decisions at Pizza Hut Park have gone in favor of FC Dallas. The crowds at PHP haven't been especially rabid, and incidents haven't been all that unusual, and yet on successive weeks Abby Okulaja and Mark Geiger have radically altered the playoff chase by their decisions.

In both cases, Kenny Cooper tucked away the penalty kicks to give FCD two valuable ties by the scores of 1-1 and 2-2, respectively. The two points lost in each game did little to help the causes of San Jose and Toronto FC, though both remain mathematically in the race as of this week.

So agitated was operator-investor Lewis Wolff that he said he called Commissioner Don Garber to complain. Coach Frank Yallop, a week after the incident occurred, still couldn't believe it but said, "We have to move on, we can't do anything about it now."

Unbelievable! He has to be certifiably retarded to think he's actually doing a good job and not step down!

Unbelievable! He has to be certifiably retarded to think he's actually doing a good job and not step down!

He obviously realizes that he's got the CSA handcuffed and he clearly won't be getting offers for more coaching jobs after this so he's hanging onto his job as long as he can.

Mitchell won't step down because of one of the following reasons:

1) He gets paid until the end of his contract this way.
2) He realises that he will never get another coaching contract EVER AGAIN.
3) He knows that the CSA can't afford to can him.
or
4) He is so deluded that he actually thinks he's doing a good job.

On the upside, they called in Gbeke. I remember watching him when the aviators played the links. He was really raw, but you could tell the potential was there. Think a larger, stronger and more skilled Colin Samuel, basically. Very good acceleration for his size, good in the air. Misses the goal a lot, unfortunately.

Maybe some personality issues. I remember some controversy of some sort early in his USL career.
