Most GOOD refs, in GOOD leagues........don't call a PK like that, unless its 100% obvious, and not from pushing/pulling in the box!!!

James17930
10-11-2008, 09:34 PM
Guys, it was an obvious penalty.

James was pulling on Serioux's shirt so hard it was almost coming off, and then he threw him to the ground. I'm actually surprised the ref saw it amidst the fray.

A win would have been perfect but a draw is still an okay result.

James was pulling on Serioux's shirt so hard it was almost coming off, and then he threw him to the ground.

The ref needs to be more loose in injury time though... plus the tug wasnt as bad as u say it was... he was pulling yes, but serioux made it look worse.

Yes you can -- that's actually the sign of a good ref, that he has the balls to make the call.

the frustration for me is not so much whether it's a penalty or not... it's the frustration of NEVER GETTING THAT CALL FOR US!!!!

we always get this shit on defense, but then when it's down the other end, and Dichio is going up in the air, he never wins these calls. I can't say it's been fair.. definitely not that old saying that "it all evens out in the end."

I've watched the replay over and over and it is clear the ref screws up and calls a handball. Serioux hand balls it though... one of the worst calls I've seen and it could end up costing TFC a playoff spot. On the bright side TFC nearly won back to back on the road... playing well as a team. Where has this TFC been all year?

Detroit_TFC
10-11-2008, 10:11 PM
Did anybody see if the ref consulted with the asst refs or did he just point to the spot immediately?

I know after he called the PK our guys were all over him but I am wondering if he tried to confirm the foul with the assts.

Wouldn't that be warranted in this situation?

You're sick of wasting your money, and getting milked for cash. Your solution is to pay for your tickets, and then not use them. Makes sense to me!

You want to make a statement? Don't renew, and let people like me have your seats. I'll be glad to cheer these guys on to victory next season.

As for the game - sad to see us lose 2 points for something as hokey as a jersey tug that late in the game, as that shit goes on all over the place in every football match ever played. However, I'm impressed with the resolve and effort of this squad once again.

Sad to see this awakening come so late in the season, but glad to see it happen at all. A round of applause from me.

Now go kick Chicago's ass next weekend please.

For the play of our guys tonight. Showed a lot of resolve in getting two goals after being down one. Save for the unfortunate "hiccup" at the end of the match, they played pretty well.

Wynne and Dichio once again showed their quality, and Velez may have managed to get himself out of the doghouse.

Considering the prominent faces we were missing, a good effort by all.

This is just to appreciate the apparent awakening of our club, the past couple of weeks. If you want to rail on them for doing so this late in the season, go elsewhere. Same for people who want to lose their minds about the (bad) penalty call.

Regardless of the finish of this season, I am now optimistic for next season, and hoping Carver will still be driving the ship.

With that in mind, please kill Chicago next week.

Even if we don't get into the playoffs this season, let's make everyone else work for their spot.

Just gutted by the result.

Same here. But at least we are in a position where the asinine officiating is now fucking us over, instead of doing it to ourselves.

One we can't do anything about. The other we can. Glad to see we are addressing that which we can control.

Again - a pat on the back from me to everyone in that locker room tonight. If you play like this for all of next season, you will have 100% of the fanbase back on your side again.

Hey, we played very, very well. Dichio seems to be back to his old self, hasn't scored the last two weeks but has caused all sorts of problems for the opposition. What a legend.

And Marvell Wynne... He has just been something else. I love the guy.

That wasn't a penalty in any league with credible refs... James had the Dallas guys shirt but the Dallas guy had his elbow in James's throat... Business as usual...

If this was a handball call then the league owes us 2 points...

20 mins of lag, lil slow out the start of the second half but overall great effort.
Loving where Rosenlund could be, great touch, great passing, great positioning, shit finishing, still alot of promise and i do like the guy.
Marvelous Wynne, our best player. God the guy has been amazing the last 3 matches.

We're still lacking beginning-to-end fight, but you can see it's a team that's not far off. A few less disasters by the usual characters (Velez, James, Jimmy, Freeman) and we're a good team.

Attakora Gyan is SO freaking impressive. Very composed, very fast, smart. He's another we can only expect to keep for a couple of years, I imagine. And in the last two games, Ibee has looked really dangerous. Looks like they've put some muscle on him, too.

I FUCKING BELIEVE IN THIS TEAM AGAIN.

I don't know where this fight has been for most of the season, but the boys finally have their spirit back and I really enjoy watching the games again. Even if we miss the play-offs, I feel that we have an actual good solid core to bring back next year and really make some noise.

And -- let's pay Wynne whatever he wants to keep him here. The guy is really, really getting good.

I know some people are quick to jump on the officiating after every loss, and others defend the calls against us. Julius James definately had a hand full of shirt. However, isn't it true that EPL/European FIFA refs hold the play from starting while they sort out the pushing/shoving/holding in the box? That ball should have never been allowed to be played while James was busy stealing Dallas' jersey. To call a penalty kick after serioux imbelished the foul and clearly caused a handball while doing so, is quite amatuer. Not to mention that we are already at the 90th minute and the referee knows that by calling a PK, he hands Dallas a free goal.

Blame James or blame Mark (the ref). Either way, James shouldnt have been doing what he did, and the ref shouldnt have allowed play to continue (as he did).

the frustration for me is not so much whether it's a penalty or not... it's the frustration of NEVER GETTING THAT CALL FOR US!!!!

we always get this shit on defense, but then when it's down the other end, and Dichio is going up in the air, he never wins these calls. I can't say it's been fair.. definitely not that old saying that "it all evens out in the end."
Completely Agree!
How many of those fucking calls have we got in our favor this year?
MLS has fucking HORRIBLE officiating, not cause they always make bad calls but for their utter lack of consistency.
Dichio has to walk on egg shells in the attacking end, yet it seems every game the opposing team get's these fucking calls!
And for my money the ref was looking to hand out a PK!

Guys, it was an obvious penalty.

James was pulling on Serioux's shirt so hard it was almost coming off, and then he threw him to the ground. I'm actually surprised the ref saw it amidst the fray.

A win would have been perfect but a draw is still an okay result.

Of course the ref saw it...the idiot James did it RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM!

What was he thinking? I know the kid is a rookie, but that is not the first game he has cost us points.

My problem with the refs is that if they are going to call that...where are the penalties in OUR favour? Because we get raped in the box as well and get jack squat from them!

Serioux did the "veteran" thing as well...he handled the ball, which gave the ref no choice but to blow his whistle.
Was Serioux handled the ball "play on" was never an option.

TFC seems to play against 15 guys....the 11 of the other team and the referee's...Head Ref,Assitant's and 4th Referee...

That was a BRUTAL call last night that the ref made in dying moments...That Ref should get his LICENSE taken away not alllow to ref MLS and go back to 4 5 year old kids

dallas is pretty goddamn lucky.
they got a Kenny Cooper penalty shot two games ago in the 89th minute in one of those "ball to hand" incidents against San Jose. That gave them a 1-1 tie then.
Two games where they grabbed points at the death with the help of refs.
maybe I'm braindead, but I can't really think of any games TFC's played where a ref's call FOR TFC directly led to salvaging a game at the death like this.

I have not read every message in this thread but it seems most people are under the impression the PK was for the shirt tug in the box. According to the Toronto Sun it was for a hand ball. Serioux handled the ball so Dallas won a PK. http://www.torontosun.com/sports/soccer/2008/10/13/7067851-sun.html
