Carver on New York clash
Playoff hopes still alive for Reds

Toronto FC coach John Carver admits his team's playoff hopes will be over if they don't win against New York Red Bulls on Saturday (kick off 7:30 p.m. live on The Score). The Reds are six points back from the playoff places with four games left to play, but have failed to gain any ground on the teams above them in recent weeks. "We are relying on other results, but we have to take care of our own results," said Carver.

New York aims to rebound vs. last-place TFC

East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - The New York Red Bulls will try to get back on track after losing three of four Major League Soccer fixtures when they host Toronto FC at Giants Stadium on Saturday.
New York's previously solid playoff footing is starting to slip and it needs to find its form quickly if it doesn't want to be out of the cold when the playoffs start in a little over a month.

One loss kills Canada World Cup dream
THE CANADIAN PRESS

A loss next week in Honduras and Canada's World Cup qualifying campaign is over. And the Canadian men will have to stave off elimination in San Pedro Sula next Satuday without two key players.
Attacking midfielder Dwayne De Rosario and defender Adrian Serioux are suspended for a game after picking up yellow cards in a 2-1 loss in Mexico on Sept. 10.

Canada announces roster for World Cup qualifiers

The team will meet early next week in Florida for a training camp before heading south to Honduras.
Canada plays Honduras Oct. 11 and then returns home four days later to host Mexico in Edmonton.

Freeman's Red Bull return
Defender back at Giants Stadium

Toronto FC defender Hunter Freeman returns to New York Red Bulls on Saturday for the first time since leaving the club. Freeman made the move to Toronto last month after spending two seasons with the Red Bulls. "It will be a bit strange," said Freeman. I've only been away from there for about three weeks, but that's part of soccer.

It's time for video review

By MORRIS DALLA COSTA (mdallacosta@lfpress.com)

It will take more than a goal that wasn't a goal to convince the old boys who run soccer that it isn't heresy to move into the modern era.
What will it take before soccer joins the other major sports in the world and move to instant replay?
More than likely, something catastrophic will get their attention. It will have to happen on a major stage. It will be a World Cup game, when the difference between winning and losing means millions of dollars. A penalty will be awarded which is no penalty, a goal is scored and a nation is eliminated.

not that it's TFC news in a direct way, but I this would make TFC fans smile to hear about a ref we all know and love!...
Steven DePiero, that shit ref that screwed us over by giving the penalty shot to Vanny in the CC, gave a red card to the Vancouver keeper last night in the USL playoffs. Nolly was kicked out in the second half (shortly after Montreal scored) and will also miss the second game of the series on Sunday. Montreal won 1-0.

Absolutely no comment in the paper edition of this morning's Globe concerning TFC.

But...short mention of York U being suspended for 4 games for using an inelegible player...guess who?

Andrea Lombardo!:D

i honestly couldn't really tell if the red card was warranted. I had the game on through webcast. I missed that part and the webcast wasn't showing replays, so I have to just assume this idiot ref got it wrong ;)

I thought for sure a Vancouver player was gonna punch him out. They were really really mad and in his face while he kept backing up. He probably could have given any of those guys a card for massive dissent. It was just amusing to see Vancouver get screwed by a ref (in their minds) like we did... :)

And Mitchell says "It wasn't really my decision"...re Onstand withdrawing from the national team.

Well it should have been your decision doofus.

And love the line about Greg Sutton wanting to be with his family. Greg is the first guy to have a baby evidently...he needs to be home 24/7. Either Greg is a pansy, or people like Brennan and Sutton are bailing on Mitchell and the national team.

Wake up CSA !!!!
