I was wondering where the Huckerby talks would go after we signed Guevara, Robert, and Ricketts...here's an update from a Globe article today:

And winger Darren Huckerby is still a possibility for TFC. There is a feeling that a deal could be close although he has yet to reveal his intentions. The feeling is it might be a family decision.

Huckerby is out of contract after playing for Norwich City. Carver knows Huckerby from their days at Newcastle.

TFC put in a discovery claim for Huckerby quite some time ago, during the winter, beating out the San Jose Earthquakes, and has first MLS rights to him.

I assume TFC would play him at centre forward as opposed to on the wing. I believe he started his career as a more or less traditional centre forward.

Yeah, and Norwich played him there for the bulk of a season about four years ago, and he had a 1-in-2 strike rate. He's a really, really good finisher. The question will be his knees, if he comes. But he'd be our best striker.

It doesn't surprise me at all to hear this. The rumour never went away, it just got boring every couple of weeks so we left it. He was always coming in June, and he still very well may be. IMO He's an improvement on todays squad so I'd be happy to have him, but don't see it as a huge coup.

I wonder if they'd have to cut Cunningham loose for this to happen?

They’d need to make at least one roster move to accommodate Huckerby. Bring in a striker, get rid of a striker, makes sense.

Now that we've got our 83rd Huckerby thread, can we have a "Fire Mo"? I'd even take a "Lombardo sucks"

Well it is in relation to current news around the team - hence the link to the Globe article. Seems like something people should be speculate about.

It actually seems like some progress has been made...

This is the first I have heard that it "might" be a family decision now - that's kind of hinting that he wants to come on the professional side, but the family side is still on the fence...

We haven't scored a goal from play in quite a while...

Our set pieces are lovely with Robert/Guerva - and yes Robert beat a pair of defenders and Hesmer but not the post on Saturday, but we haven't scored a goal from play in a while...

Another quality striker should help that...

Was hoping we'd shoot a little higher (not that hes a bad player just that i want a big name DP if we are going to sign a DP)... guess its not all said and done quite yet tho...

Even if we get Huckerby, we would still need another striker in addition to him - just in terms of depth (that’s assuming we move Cunningham to accommodate him). I don’t see any way we could land both Huckerby and a DP - but stranger things have happened.

well, the way I see it is, Carver and co. have made all the right moves this season so far. So if they think Huckerberry Hound is the right striker for us, then I will believe them until proven otherwise.

Looks like Huckerby will be coming over to North America for a couple weeks to check things out. I would have to imagine that if it is down to Toronto & San Jose that he would choose Toronto.

http://norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com/full_article.asp?i=3465

The fact that Huckerby is unlikely ever to walk out again in front of a Carrow Road crowd again is, only now, starting to sink in. Pastures new await - on the other side of the Pond, if his big pal Adam Drury is to be believed. The City full-back's future summer holiday plans look set to revolve around a week or two in the States, apparently. .....
The speculation is, of course, that Huckerby now has a clutch of Major League Soccer outfits waiting in the wings for his services - a queue headed by Toronto FC with San Jose Earthquake not too far behind. .......
Overall, however, and it was another big day for the Huckerby scrap-book; one, final trophy to slip into the suitcase as and when the call from Canada comes.

Huckerby: That wasn't exactly a revelation that Toronto FC has put in a discovery claim on Norwich City's Darren Huckerby who is now out of contract. That claim was put in quite a while ago, like in the winter. "We've had it since when I arrived here," said Carver whose appointment as head coach was announced Feb. 1. Huckerby and Carver know each other from their days at Newcastle United and have even gone on vacation together. But he is not the only option out there for Toronto. There are one or two others.

Sounds like Huckerby isn’t the only ‘iron in the fire’.

Did Robbo and Huckerby play together? This deal is taking for-ever...
