If BMO looks like that in 10 years, I have a feeling seasons tickets will be expensive.

Great place...it lights up too, they use red for Bayern, blue for TSV and white for the National team.

^ neato!

but I would be surprised if MLSE and the city managed to make such improvements to our stadium.
staying cheap means making more money...

Unless this team has a winning season next year ticket sales will begin to decline and we'll have a weathered version of exactly what's there right now in 10 years.

And then maybe we'll beat Arsenal at the Emirites too!

Who is this FCB you speak of?? Ooooohhh, now I remember. That German team...theyre like, 12th, right? Ya...got flattened at home by Bremen, then got beat by Hannover...scored a beautiful own goal against Lyon...yup, I know who you're talking about.

lol in all seriousness though, 1860 needs out of that damn stadium. At the time of the vote (for or against a new stadium in Munich) 1860 was in CL qualifying, so it seemed to everyone that they would continue to draw huge crowds and play internationally all the time. Instead, they started sucking, and that stadium is making them go bankrupt.

Most of their fans hate it and dont go to home games because all the money they spend there goes straight to Bayern. Its a shitty situation. I hate that stadium with a passion.

I was waiting for you :D

It is unfortunate that 1860 have hit the skids since the Allianz was put up and are therefore in a bit of a tough situation stadium wise (I don't have a special hate on for 1860...I am just good at making poor jokes).

Back on track, I really like that design for the KC Communications Stadium. Can it happen here? Perhaps. But I think in order for something like that to be built it would either have to accomodate multiple franchises, or TFC would have to become MLSE's flagship team.

I used the KC stadium as an example b/c it is similar in configuration as BMO (with one side being two-tiered) and has the right capacity for the needs of MLS and TFC. Allianz Arena is super pimp but that really wouldn't be realistic in terms of capacity and cost. KC stadium was built for 44 million GBP in 2001, without considering the cost of inflation, it wouldn't require a significant investment by MLSE (considering how much they dish out for the Raptors and Leafs) to turn BMO into something similar.

An extension of the bottom tier of the west stands into the north end and some modifications to the NE and SE corners would be needed. All that would have to be done after would be to add a roof and grass! MLSE are already playing around with the idea of expansion into the 25k range aren't they?

TFC definitely has the potential to become the flagship franchise of MLS. They certainly have the money and market presence, not to mention the support. Put a winning team on the pitch and renovate BMO into something thats class instead of something Micky Mouse and all the pieces will be in place.

I guess its a good thing you can't see what shirt I wore to work today.

When it was built ownership was equally split between the 2 clubs, when die Lowen needed cash they sold their share to Bayern, I'm sure they pay rent now, but I'm not sure how much. Things definatley didn't work out they way they hoped it would.

As far as BMO, we havent even had a team logo flag at the top of 108 since sometime last season, I bet it screws up the view of the city skyline on TV. If they are worried about a flag, how do you think they'll feel about a roof?

ACSertL
10-01-2008, 12:55 PM
Yeah, I guess the multiple franchises thing applies more to a design like the Allianz than it does for the KC Comm Stadium. In fairness I didn't see the capacity when I looked the first time :).

I am still, as I suppose many are, unclear on the motives for MLSE in regards to a possible stadium expansion (multi use). However I think using Hull City's ground as a model isn't a bad idea.

Haha, good on ya! :) Like I said before, I have no hostility to 1860 supporters unless it is in the Munchen Derby.

Any idea what something like this would cost?

ACSertL
10-01-2008, 12:59 PM
Don't know if that was a rhetorical question Blazer, but I think that might be an issue for the City.

Edit...according to tovan and wiki the stadium ran 44 million pounds. That was from the ground up. I'm not an engineer so I wouldn't be able to tell you if renovations would be less expensive although logic in this instance should lean towards less than that cost.

No, no. I really am curious to know what it would cost. It’s very impressive!

hmm..... is it the off season yet? This thread reeks of off-season talk.

I'd rather have a high energy small stadium over an airplane hangar of boredom.

^ I could see BMO going in this kind of direction design wise.
It's proof positive that having a roof isn't as important as having passion.

We'll call this almost off season talk :).

Also the Stade Velodrome is a 60,000+ capacity. But I agree that a roof isn't paramount to having a loud stadium.

Yes a roof would help for sure. I am actually in favour of one. But its not required is all.

10 years? A bunch of people stuffing their mouths with popcorn if we don't get a supporters section sorted out so there are not huge swaths of people with their lips pursed shut all match long.

I can't say the same thing about my feelings for Bayern, but that's more because I love Schalke. One of my friends is a huge Bayern fan, we were walking down a street in munich, I turned to go in to the 1860 team store, he swore at me and went towards the Bayern store across the street, part of me thinks I just bought the shirt to piss him off. We did however agree on the selection beverages at the Hofbrauhaus the next block up. :drinking:

Here was the proposed Maksimir Stadium. (Cost 4.3 Billion HRK = 897,737,120.01 CAD)

And here is the newer more "cost efficient" one Plavi Vulkan (Blue Spaceship)

Its all good. Nice to see Bundesliga supporters on the boards!

Hawk...that stadium is weird. I couldn't imagine watching, let alone playing with all those random shadows all over the pitch.

what is that floating thing in Plavi Vulkan? is that holding up the roof or what? ;)
is it just some pretty balloon?

MrHawk
10-02-2008, 10:17 AM
It's a lot cheaper, considering Maksimir is currently one of the most expensive stadiums in Europe (Based off all the upgrades since 1912 when it was first built)

The worst part, is Plavi Vulkan won't even be in Maksimir anymore, it would be in a newer area of Novi Zagreb called Kajzerica.

Would you guys be okay with BMO being located to say........Maple?

This is what BMO would realistically look like in 10 years....
http://www.thefootie.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/kamloops-soccer-field.jpg

But seriously... in 10 years, lets hope for grass and capacity to seat 40,000.... thats probably as realistic as it will get unless TFC wins the next 8 of 9 MLS cups...
