TFC is commonly referred to as the Reds, which presently suits TFC, but is not uniquely ours.

Looking at the TFC logo, there is a Red Maple Leaf crowning the top of the shield.

The technical name for Red Maple is "Acer Rubrum". (Acer=Maple, Rubrum=Red). The word Acer identifies the Maple Tree family and was first used in 1700.

The Latin word Acer means "Sharp" (referring to the characteristic points on the leaves).

see wiki link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acer_(genus) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acer_%28genus%29))

Therefore, since there is a Red Maple Leaf on the TFC shield, we can refer to the team as the "Red Maples". Regrettably, we cannot use Maple as our knickname for obvious reasons.

However, we can refer to TFC as the "Acers", since it means Maples. However, since Acer is already a well known computer company, we can shorten Acer to Aces.

So there it is.... ACES! What do you boys think? It's logical and makes sense.

RED ACES? Sounds as good as Red Devils to me.

You heard it here first!

That's a pretty cool connection you've made, but I think I'll stick to Reds. Good research, though.

How about Red Asses?

Red Aces or Aces it is! A lot better than reds which has been used more times than Paris Hilton.

Ok ... but if its Red Aces ... an artistic RPB is going to have to make a banner that looks like this:

^ Well, yeah. But that's the point. Reds is our nickname because everyone and their mom says it.

Yes, and use a Maple Leaf instead of a Spade!

i'll be happy when we can get the media and morons on the way to games to stop calling them "FC" or "The FC"

i personally don't like calling them the reds as it's not original. but it's better than FC.

Red Aces sounds pretty good to me. but i doubt it would catch on, even with a banner. good job on bringin up a more original nickname. we need it, but i think in a few years something weird will happen and we'll get a nickname from that.

I dont remember which character that is from X-Men, but that's hillarious, and did you notice he's also missing the fringers on his glove which make the "Shocker" sign??

How about the "Red Shockers" or "Bloody Shockers"

Brilliant!

it's Gambit. and he'd have to be missing the middle finger too for it to be the shocker.

but i to did think something similar. "why just the two fingers in leather gambit?"

P.S. Walking to work I had an ephiphany... I saw this enormous truck stop dead in the middle of the road to yield for a family of Loons crossing the street.

That's when I realized The Loons would be a great nickname for TFC... besides we need the luck... maybe we should place a Loonie underneath BMO Field's turf...

That sounds good, but let's keep it simple -- the TFC crest doesn't exactly feature a maple leaf. Until it becomes prominent, I don't know if Aces would work.

That wouldn't be a bad idea.

A loonie in each corner I reckon, and one in the middle. Maybe that could help? :D

how about we just start throwing loonies at the pitch!

I tend to agree. Honestly, I'd love "United" as I like the chant but "Reds" is just fine with me.

I like "Rifles" too but so far, I've never found anybody who agrees with me. :noidea:

Whatever happend to Red Coats?

Keystone FC

I still say Tossers is a good name.
Refers to :
1. The 1st goal scored for TFC and the fans TOSSING the seat covers onto the pitch.
2. Supporters/Fans TOSSING streamers (hotdogs, corncobs, magnet fridge scheds, babies, small animals) onto the pitch and at opposing players during corner kicks.
3. The Security and Police at BMO TOSSING fans out of the stadium.

It fits on soooooo many levels.

I personally liked Red Coats, but a few had issues with it being too Anglocentric and not representing the wide base of the current makeup of Toronto and TFC fanbase. Plus, some thought it was too 'British' and not Canadian/Toronto specific.
But seeing as how Canada was under British legislative rule until 1982,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada_Act_1982
and seeing as how BMO is located at the CNE where the main gate is named for the Prince of Wales,
http://www.explace.on.ca/ArchivesWeb/v01.htm
and seeing as how close BMO is to Fort York,
http://www.fortyork.ca/
I think Red Coats is a proper name, and this coming from a Yank.;)
