J-League officials visited Chivas, Dallas, & Columbus to figure out how to increase attendance, among other things. Someone will get fired for this decision...

The goal of the visit was to support the 11 Million Project by learning about MLS's best practices in ticket sales, community relations, and database marketing.

MLS Best Practice for ticket sales = Buy 1 superstar player and parade him around the league, increasing ticket sales wherever he goes for that one match.

MLS Database marketing = collect email addresses and send emails to fans about contests and offers that they can't enter due to their location of residence

What the J-League learned:

1) Make sure your stadium is NOT accessible by public transit
2) KKK members buy tickets
3) Stages inside stadiums are a good thing

shouldn't the trip have been the other way round? MLS officials go to Japan? Isn't that league a bit more successful

good one.. i have more to add.

4)sell tickets only to Soccer Moms.
5)bring in washed up DP's and call the league TOP Notch
6)Pointy(nfl) lines add a cool effect on the playing field
7)How to sell 1 beer for the price of a 6 pack, Oops Sorry thats TFC...

why would they visit Chivas, Dallas and Columbus???? they have some of the worst attendence in the league. It would make more sense for them to visit teams like Toronto, LA, chicago or DC!

i would say so. They have a few teams like Urawa Reds who fill a 60,000 seat stadium on a regualar basis. Some of the other teams average less, more like 15,000 fans a game like MLS clubs. But id say the difference is every team in the J-League have great supporters whether the clubs are big or small.

i saw a game last night and cant remember the name of the Japan club, but they had only about 13,000 fans at the game. But wow it sounded like there was 60,000 fans. Just about all 13,000 fans that showed up were behind the goal, they were all supporters and they knew how to sing together, jump together and put on a great tifo with there flags. They sounded 10 times louder then we ever have even tho they had less fans and the stadium was much bigger and empty everyone besides behind the net. We need to learn from them how to get people to sing and chant and all together!
