Toronto FC adds defender, avoids Schelotto
By DEAN MCNULTY (dean.mcnulty@sunmedia.ca), SUN MEDIA

The Columbus Crew may be guilty of looking beyond today's Major League Soccer match against Toronto FC at BMO Field.
The Crew has been the best team in the MLS for most of this season and sits on top of the standings, two points ahead of the New England Revolution with a game in hand.
But yesterday the club all but admitted that sitting superstar Guillermo Barros Schelotto has more to do with resting the high-scoring midfielder for the playoffs than a slightly pulled hamstring injury suffered Tuesday in practice.

Toronto FC trades for Hunter Freeman

Toronto FC acquired American defender Hunter Freeman until the end of the current Major League Soccer season as part of a trade with the New York Red Bulls on Friday.
In return, the Canadian club gave up two picks in the 2009 Major League Soccer supplemental draft.
Freeman, 23, is in the final year of his current deal and has already signed a pre-contract with IK Start and will join the Norwegian club in January.
Part of the trade agreement with the Red Bulls stipulates that Toronto must give New York a second-round pick in the 2011 MLS draft if Freeman re-signs with the Canadian team at any point in 2009.

Defender hopes for fresh start

Hunter Freeman is looking forward to a fresh start in Toronto. The defender has signed for the Reds until the end of the season from New York Red Bulls, and is set to make his debut in tomorrow's game against Columbus Crew at BMO Field.
