Toronto FC coach feeling tinge of regret
Schelotto playing well after being ripped for diving

The last time the Columbus Crew visited BMO Field, their star midfielder Guillermo Barros Schelotto underwhelmed the sellout crowd with his performance.
As the first half ended he argued with officials about a call he felt they missed, costing his team a corner kick as time expired.
Early in the second half he felt TFC's Carl Robinson tug at his jersey, then hit the turf, hoping to draw a foul.
Late in the game he flopped again after light contact, and when the referee ignored him the Crew's biggest name and highest-paid player asked coach Sigi Schmid to sub him out.

Toronto FC needs to play with 'more grit': Sutton

Toronto FC's playoff prospects look pretty bleak.
Toronto has only one win in its last 11 games, its latest result a 3-1 loss to Chivas USA at home last weekend.
That loss dropped the team's record to 7-11-5 and with just 26 points, Toronto remains in sixth place in the Eastern Conference, six points out of a playoff spot with seven games left in Major League Soccer's regular season.
If that wasn't bad enough, Toronto's next game is against the Columbus Crew, the best team in MLS, on Saturday (CBC, CBCSports.ca, 3:30 p.m. ET).

Velez suspended two games, not one
The Major League Soccer Disciplinary Committee today suspended Toronto FC defender Marco Velez one game and fined him $250 for endangering another player with a deliberate blow to the head in Toronto FC's game versus Chivas USA on Saturday, Sept. 6.

TFC, Crew set to decide Trillium Cup

Budding rivals meet for final time in regular season as playoffs loom

TORONTO FC vs. COLUMBUS CREW
BMO FIELD, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Sept. 13, 2008 | 3:45 p.m. ET (CBC; ONN)

Having moved into a clear advantage atop the Eastern Conference, the Columbus Crew travel to Toronto FC for the third Trillium Cup meeting of the season, with the home side needing the full points if they are to maintain dreams of a first playoff spot. The Crew now lead the East by five points, riding a four-game winning streak, and hold the league's best overall record. TFC sits in a tie for sixth place in the conference, now six points out of eighth place overall and the last available wild card slot.

TFC hoping Sutton can deliver a win

Columbus In Town; New father is well rested, despite baby
Eric Koreen, National Post

TORONTO - Greg Sutton is enjoying life these days, although it is not his day job as a professional soccer goalkeeper that is bringing him satisfaction.
His club team, Toronto FC, has won exactly once in its last 16 games. The Canadian men's team, of which he is also a member, picked up just one point in its first three games of World Cup qualifying. As chances of making the MLS playoffs this season dwindle, so do the odds of making the World Cup in 2010 in South Africa.
But the 31-year-old Hamiltonian is smiling because he became a father for the first time a week ago today, as his wife gave birth to a girl, Maya. And so far, the new dad has avoided most of the heavy lifting.
"It was a long two nights actually," Sutton said yesterday about the moments leading up to becoming a father. "You have more respect for your wife than ever and realizing that there's a reason that women give birth. Because I don't think men could handle it.

Guillermo Barros Schelotto is 35 years old. Remarkably, he has started all of the Crew's 23 games. The season caught up with the midfielder this week when he suffered an injury to his left hamstring. He won't play Saturday at Toronto and could miss a home game Thursday against New York.
"I feel the muscle is hard," said Schelotto, who was hurt during practice Tuesday. "It is better to not play in Toronto and (against) New York (because) I think we are in the playoffs and I want to play in the playoffs."

No Schelotto...that is good news. I mean you always want to beat a team when they are at full strength, but right now it looks like we need all the help we can get.
