MLS star breaks leg celebrating disallowed goal

The world’s football retirement home, also known as the MLS, is great for those looking for some slow-paced ’sawker’ action, and now it is also a fantastic source of hilarious injuries.
While playing against David Beckham United on Saturday, Argentinean Real Salt Lake striker Fabián Espíndola put the ball in the net after six minutes, and in celebration, he attempted one of his trademark backflip celebrations. Things didn’t go quite as planned, however, as he broke his leg on landing, and then found out the goal was disallowed for offside:eek::

“I’m embarrassed, “said Espindola, who celebrated goals with a flip since his days as a youth player in Argentina. “I’m never going to do that again. I don’t know what happened. I’ve done it a million times. If I would have known I never would have done it.:o”

Similar thing happened to Martin Gramatica when he was playing for the Cardinals. He kicked a field goal and then jumped to celebrate...I think he tore ligaments in his leg.

When Real Salt Lake forward Fabian Espindola injured himself celebrating a goal by doing backflips Saturday night in the team's 2-2 draw against the Los Angeles Galaxy, it was an unfortunate incident. But it was only another reminder of how freak occurrences and bizarre events can result in players getting hurt.
Espindola is expected to miss the next four to eight weeks with an ankle sprain after the original diagnoses of a broken bone proved to be incorrect and only a sprain was found in an MRI.http://deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,700257651,00.html

He saved face by a least getting to the sideline but way to let the team down.
