Titus's soccer odyssey runs through Toronto FC
LARRY MILLSON

TORONTO — Rick Titus is 39 and has been around. His soccer odyssey has included a stop in Major League Soccer with the Colorado Rapids in 2002.
The defender was back in the MLS on Saturday with Toronto FC for a one-shot deal and played the full match for the depleted team in a 3-1 loss to Chivas USA before a crowd of 19,863 at BMO Field.
Tuesday night, he will return to playing with one of three teams he has competed for this season, Real Toronto, at the Ontario Soccer Centre.
Titus was one of three late additions to Toronto FC after nine players were called up to their national teams for World Cup qualifying matches over the weekend. Toronto had tried to have the game postponed.
Toronto chief scout, Tim Regan, 27, who played in MLS as recently as last season, came out of retirement to join Titus and another defender, Diaz Kambere, 22, who was on loan from the Vancouver Whitecaps of the United Soccer Leagues.

Amateur Gives TFC Day's Work For Free

Eric Koreen, National Post TORONTO - If there is a segment of the North American sports community that does not take Major League Soccer seriously, this certainly will not help: Rick Titus played in a league game on Saturday.
He did so for free.
With nine regulars called up for international duty, Toronto FC was left with just one healthy defender for its game against Chivas USA, a 3-1 defeat. TFC was allowed to bring in two emergency defenders to help ease the burden. But that still left the team one defender short of a full starting unit.

Titus plays with Mo in a beer league. That's where he found him.

I'm speechless

Didn't Carver say they were desperate? And he was.
Didn't even Tom Anselmi phone Gazidis personally to get the match postponed?
It was crazy that TFC had to play. Period.

I wouldnt mind us bringing him in as an emergency player....

I dont know if we have the roster space for him,
but his experience would be an asset...

He'd probably outplay Velez (whose tailing off) for the remaining games....

If need be, i wouldn be opposed to waiving Harmse for him...
....or dunivant (who i dont believe will be back.... our draft picks and such), but he's on the IR, so that really wouldnt do much in terms of freeing up a roster spot

For the past decade, any time MLS officials made remarks about altering the regular-season schedule to accommodate international competitions, coaches and general managers knew it was time to reach for their collection of rock music, flip to the Led Zeppelin stack, and pull out, “The Song Remains the Same.”
Either the album or the film version would do. League officials always said the right thing about lightening up the schedule during World Cups or international fixture dates, but nobody ever noticed much difference.
Yet last year were released re-mastered and remixed audio and video versions of the 1976 Zep productions, and next year the league simply has to release a cleaner and crisper method of conducting its regular season. This song has to change.

We can add him to the season ending inventory list which will free up a roster spot, however we can't do that until we have a replacement

We have one roster spot open, so we have no problems with that. On top of that there is a regulation to allow to place a player on season ending injury and sign a replacement for him (SEI declaration must occur at time of replacement).

To be honest, I don't see signing Titus unless it was going to be long-term. He's played this long without a contract in order to keep his amateur status, why would he start now for a half a season?

If he was 10 years younger, he likely would have been signed by now.
