Yeovil Town manager Russell Slade hopes to complete a deal to sign former Sunderland midfielder Andy Welsh.
The 24-year-old made 21 appearances for Blackpool in the Championship last season, mostly as a substitute. Welsh, a former Stockport trainee, is now a free agent and will have a medical at Huish Park on Thursday. Boss Russell Slade told BBC Somerset: "We've verbally agreed terms. Two other clubs dearly wanted him so I hope he hasn't changed his mind."

'dearly wanted'

He's got the right stuff, great off the ball. He's just not at the level we needed at the time. Good luck Andy.

Premier League - League Championship - MLS - League 1....at this rate he should be starting at Luton Town within 18 months...

Hopefully he doesn't tell Begovic bad things about TFC.

Typo. Should have said 'bearly'

(I know, wrong spelling.)

Good luck to him, I liked the guy.

Actually he started at League 1, then Prem only to be loaned to Champ, then MLS, then back to League 1.

Just going back to his roots.

I could care less. He was terrible with TFC from Game #1

I had a soft spot for him. He was never really 'that' bad. Not good by any means but still in my opinion created the most space while playing on the left wing.

Nice move for Welsh. Yeovil Town are ‘up-and-comers’ - they’ve had a number of recent promotions, and they’ve been in the playoffs as recently as 2006. They’re looking to build a new ground too. On the down side they’ve got a bit of a lame nickname - "The Glovers".

Yeovil would be the other "local" team for my family besides Bristol Rovers....

good to see him land somewhere.

Riggs? :)

I remember Yeovil's playoff run in '06. They came back from a 2-0 defeat at home to smack Forest 5-2 at the City Ground to knock us out of the playoffs.

Andy Welsh could have been a useful player and he did have his moments...if memory serves me correct he scored the lone goal that defeated the Dynamo at the mist bowl last year. Good luck Welshy.

well at least he's retaining a thread of a Canadian connection - I think Asmir Begovic is on loan at Yeovil from Portsmouth...

Wagenaar and Bircham are both there, too.

As I predicted he's started his slide down the pyramid, next year League 2, year after that Conference National and so on. Shame as he seemed a nice lad and deserves respect for trying to stop a pitch invader getting arrested v Chicago but he was still too easily knocked off the ball and too slow

I never thought he was that horrbile either. Not great by any means but not terrible. For the right price he would still be a good bench player for us. He may have developed into something in this league.

We're quite happy to have another player in our squad. We don't have a lot of players and this addition is more than welcome. I see that he didn't impress with TFC...I hope he does well for us.

As for canadians in Yeovil: Begovic (on loan), Bircham and Wagenaar. There was a rumour about Jaime Peters joining on loan but haven't heard anything for a few weeks now.

His biggest asset is his use and creating of space. Hopefully you've got a consistant crosser of the ball though. ;)

We could probably use him right now, and is at the level needed at this time at TFC!!
Andy was one of those players that just didn't click, I also wish him well.
