Who wouldnt want to pay more to see this team play? What an honor it is to have a real football team playing in Toronto! Lets all hear it for Toronto FC and our glorious leaders JC, Mo and MLSE. Thank you all so much for the privilege of watching this team. In fact, I dont think im paying enough for my tickets, they should raise them again next season.

Totally agreed.... I'm going to go on my hands and knees tonight and thank the big guy for the opportunity to watch this team. I think they should make these away games pay-per-view, because nothing is more satisfying than watching quality footy like we just saw on a Saturday night at 12:00 AM.

That's the thing. We need to show less support at the stadium. Calling the front office and complaining isn't going to do anything. We need to sit on our hands and say nothing for 25 minutes of the game and bore the shit out of the tourist fans who come for the atmosphere. Then the team might do something about getting a better product. I ahve never ever been this upset by a toronto game. But angry or not, I really mean we need a silent protest or something. This shit about only a second year team doesn't fly anymore when san jose is a point behind us.

Let's protest at the next game by sitting on our hands. They always brag about the fans, but the fans need something to brag about the team.

For those of you who havent truly supported a football team before, i hate to say it, but the situation we are in is totally normal. Shit team (apart from when they win, after which we all expect them to go and win the league), increased prices (how the fuck can they justify it ????), and promises of investment, players on the horizon etc etc. The nature of being a football supporter is that you expect a championship winning team all of the time, and end up with mediocrity at best. Those winning games where we beat bigger and better opposition, in our house with a manic atmosphere make it all worth while. This passion and commitment shown towards the team - irrespective of how they are doing, is what makes football so special and is what people of the outside just dont get. I remember talking to a CBC reported inside BMO on the last day of the inaugural season (section 116), and she was asking why i was cheering and supporting the team when they were clearly the worst in the league. After trying to explain to her, and receiving the blank 'nodding dog' response, i looked at her and told her "you just dont get it do you ?"

Anyway, i digress. I am still hopefull that we get a world class DP, and we go on to win the Champions League. Reality is, i'll be happy seeing my team beat the mediocre shite in this league and having somethign to cheer about on match days.:drunk:

Seems like the biggest part of Toronto FC is costing the team nothing, so they're laughing at us. Like someone mentioned, lets give the casual fans "Nothing to see here, move along" for the rest of the season and force MLSE's hand to improve the product...

How about everybody wait until the last day to renew their season tix? This will give MLSE a bit of a panic and maybe they will fire Johnston.

Not typically in my opinion. Most teams around the world have to win to make any real money and fielding a solid roster with good management will help them in that regard. With the current dynamics of the league and club ownership, winning doesn't actually seem like such a bad thing for Toronto FC. Just think about all that cash the clubs playing in the top European leagues get for their championships and tourney results. The same doesn't really apply here in MLS.

Which is a real pity, but there you have it.

niuce quote- good points. I'll sing myself hoarse for this team as long as the players show the pride to wear the shirt.

Gas Prices...

Every company, store, internet provider, bank, builder, and insurance company is raising prices because of gas prices...

I'm personally blaming my higher beer consumption on gas prices... :D

nope, but some people feel the need to start up threads over and over.... maybe people need to be taught about the "search" function up top.

We've got to pay the bills for all the deadweight the rest of this league has.

Plus a 20% ROI in year one apparently wasn't enough to satisfy the suits.

I think people are expecting the Man United of the MLS automatically because we have the best fans.

Lets hope for real grass at least.

Supply and demand dictates cost. This is not unique to MLSE or football.

Statistically the team is marginally better now than it was last year, but hardly a justification for raising prices!

Is the salary cap increasing significantly for next year?
Is the size of the roster expanding at all for next year?
Are they going to pay the development players a "living" wage?
Are they footing the bill for grass at BMO?
Are we footing the bill to expand the seating at BMO - an upper tier?
Is the club purchasing a training centre?
Is the club hiring scouts?
Is the club expanding the Academy program?
Playoff expenses?
Do we have additional games/competitions for next season?
Is it to justify bonuses; and if so, who earned a bonus?
Forget the DP and better player acquisitions, we've heard MoJo chirping about this last year and this year!

Add in insult to injury with the fact that our best players are frequently on NT duty, so TFC is fielding an inferior product. The league's best players are also frequently on NT duty, so I'm paying top $ now to watch average players and now I'm expected to pay more for the same product next year.

Yeah,
I think I want to know why MLSE expects us to pay more for so little in return

THATS GOLD JERRY! GOLD!

Has it sunk into anyone yet that the next new player we will see here is probably after game 2 or 3 of next year because Mo spent so much time over this summer looking for players all over the world that he totally forgot to sign someone?? the first two years he did this so brace your self from the anxiety cuz I think were in for some more bullshit months down the road and truly wait again for the english league to finish....

Hey are there any good players for Hull or Stoke city?????

i think we should stop thinking of ourselves as "the best fans in the league/ world", and stop thinking people are paying to come see the fans chant!

People come out to see the game, not the fans!
we just add something to it......ITS NOT ABOUT US!

this is a second year team in a league which still plans its season around baseball and football games! If the league concentrated on getting SSS for all teams, and made that manditory for any new ones joining the league, we'd be better off in qualitfying weekends.... This "nothing to see here" attitude happens every game in cities like ny.

fwiw,
I picked out a few "facts" from the current CBA
this just provides a little bit of clarity with regard to expenses incurred by MLSE as the current CBA does include 2009. nickels & dimes really

The current CBA expires midnight, January 31, 2010.

Currently, the min salary for a senior roster player will be $33,000; in 2009, $34,000
Currently, the monthly wage for a low-level developmental player is $1,075; in 2009, $1,175
Currently, the monthly wage for a high-level developmental player is $1,475; in 2009, $1,575
Currently, MLS's 2008 401K (RRSP) contributions are 2.75% of the player's salary; 3.0% in 2009
Currently, MLS players receive a daily per diem for food on road trips of $47 (breaky, lunch & dinner); in 2009, $50
Currently, an MLS player receives 4 complimentary game tickets for each home match, 2 for an away matche
MLS players are guaranteed six weeks' vacation per year during the offseason

MLS teams are limited to 48 matches in a calendar year (major tournaments are exempt).

just adding to previous info

MLS, TFC and LICO

Low Income Cut-Offs (LICO) - The LICO calculates the average cost of basic necessities (including housing, food, and clothing) for different sized households in different sized communities. The measure then adds an additional 20% to determine the low income cut-off for each family/household size. The additional 20% is meant to cover all expenses beyond food, shelter and clothing. This includes such things as heat, hydro, telephone, laundry, toiletries, cleaning supplies, school related costs, medications, transportation, and other unexpected costs.

LICO, before tax, 2007 figures
Community size up to 499,999, 1 person = $18,659
Community Size over 500,000, 1 person = $21,666

2008 figures not yet published

http://www.statcan.ca/bsolc/english/bsolc?catno=75F0002M2004002

So from a TFC perspective, MLSE remunerates 7 players with an
annual wage below the "poverty line" or LICO

$12,900
Attakora
Elkinson
Gala
Gaudet
Melo

$17,700
Hemming
Rosenlund

Must be a rewarding feeling knowing that your up and coming
prospects qualify for assistance at the local food bank to insure
they are able to access minimum levels of nutritional foods to maintain
game fitness.

King Dave and I were having a chat about this yesterday. It basically nets out as follows:

THE CURRENT PRODUCT ON THE FIELD DOES NOT JUSTIFY CURRENT TICKET PRICES.

We're not paying shit prices to see this team, so why are we handed shit to watch?

mlsintoronto, you listening?
